England 2004 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Santorini Black
CB

whilst clearing out the garage at the weekend i found my old Ham international CB (am/fm hi/mid/lo)
it appears to work but i didnt hear a thing on it while driving down the m6 on monday morning.
either nobody uses them, i was on the wrong channel (i tried ch19 mid band on FM) or my aeriel is dead or not tuned in (i think you had to tune them in but its not been touched in 30 years).
can anyone confirm if they know anything about channel / band etc.

cheers

The latest ones still have the old 40 UK channels + 40 EU channels which are all legal in the UK.
I've still got an AM/FM set in a draw somewhere and IIRC I had to put that on something strange like 34 Hi to get CH19 UK FM so it may be worth having a scan around the channels to find what's out there.

Yes the aerial has to be tuned but that's mainly for the transmit side, remember having an SWR meter? Very Happy
You tune the length of the aerial to match the output of the radio when it transmits to stop too much power being reflected back down the aerial and into the radio. If you don't tune the aerial and the reflected signal is quite strong then it can damage the radio. Wink

We have a few for when we're out laning in my 110 or Series III. It's mostly a blank wasteland these days other than truckers but we deliberately pick the quieter channels anyway. Si. <This is my name.

i knew that there would be other hoarders out there. I'll try the hi band and see what i can pick up later on, there must be a bit of chatter round the ferry port and motorway. Thumbs Up

my very first cb was a 23 channel which was quickly sold to buy a more modern 40 channel one...still remember the mega bust by 'busby' where they took around 20 radios/swr meters from our cars.. ... - .- -.
