Hi guys

This is related to my other thread of losing coolant.

The warranty company need a garage to diagnose the problem (the loss of coolant) for which my local garages want silly money for - and no surprise my policy covers everything in the cooling system but a radiator! So hoping it's something else.

Is there a way I can check whether it is indeed the rad or if it's a pipe etc or is a garage the only way?

Any advice on how to go about checking this would be much appreciated

i would have thought the simplest way would be to get it up to temperature and maybe do a visual inspection and then maybe a piece of tissue paper to see if there are any fine sprays and obviously taking care not to touch any moving parts. ... - .- -.

Think you can get leak detector kits, a fluorescent dye you can add to the coolant then run the system and shine a special torch to see where the leak it

take the fan off (left handed thread) undo the 4 little rivit things and remove the undertray 12? 10mm bolts then remove the fan cowel. use a torch and mirror to look for staining. should be red/orange or green/blue colour. you could try a pressure test but woukd req plugging the holes in the rad and a way of pressuring the system. or start the car without the above buts and look for a leak when warm. [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]

If it helps I was looking back at previous jobs and not sure if the rad was changed - for an entry on service by Town & County Aberdeen dated 2009 and says Cost £876.62 - "s/f front to rear brake pipes.renewed radiator.pipe and transmission thermostat.

So not sure if that's a new radiator or radiator pipe!

Water pump and coolant was last done in 2008 so maybe it could be the water pump.

As a general rule how often should the coolant system be flushed?

You can get a pressure kit that you fit to the expansion bottle which you can then use a footpump or car pump on and get a little pressure in the system and listen for leaks with the engine off but nice and hot to make the thermostat stay open  FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
Mantec Sump Guard, Rigid Load liner, MY10 BT upgrade.
