Jump leads

Would someone please recommend a set of jump leads for me please; i.e amp rating/diameter of cables etc.
I need a pair for my TD6 (110amp battery)

Thanks,
Chris

I'd have said 25mm dia leads would do the trick but if you want belt & braces then Halfrauds do a 35mm set that they rate for diesels up to 4ltr.

I bought these. When it comes to jump leads, bigger is better. The starter motor can draw a huge amount of current, and the cheaper (thinner) ones do get very hot, and may not allow enough power through

Need to be extremely careful with LR and jump leads. They can cause spikes that damage ecu's and other components when connecting them. You should really use an anti spike controller or a jump pack with built in anti spike to prevent damage. TDV8 Vogue SE 2009.

Thank you everyone for your advice. The jump leads are for a forthcoming European trip and space will be at a premium so I will have no room for a jump pack. I've no idea what an anti spike controller is. Is it something you can attach to your jump leads?

Hi Chris -
We used to have these at work. They have a box in line in the leads - so the two leads are no longer separate. You may be better off asking a commercial vehicle supplier ? - worth a punt . . .

Paul

Thumbs Up Where do you go after one of these . . . ?

i have just got a pair of heavy duty cables from ECP and have jumped to and from the car on several occasions without a problem.

There is a specific way of connecting the jumper cables to the FFRR see page 269-271 in the manual on the correct order to do things as this is important. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I use 175A and they've been fine - seems to be what most people use - I trawled a few Landrover & other sites.

They come with a few different cable bores, so make sure you get them big enough Wink

I've soldered mine

Wired Anderson Connectors? I'll have to research that on Google.

Question

I'm nervous to jump start a computer/electronic heavy car. And there are few cars with more gizmos than an FFRR. Have people ha,d good luck jumping them?
