Antifreeze - Corrosion Inhibitor......

Colour - Does not matter, manufacturers use it to aid spotting the level otherwise it would be clear. Saying that a colour system has developed over the years starting Green, then Blue, then Red and now Orange. The difference in them is the inhibitor system.

Blues and Greens were I.A.T or INORGANIC ADDITIVE TECHNOLOGY (Phosphate, Silicate, Borate) used mostly pre 1990

Red was/is H.O.A.T HYBRID ORGANIC ACID TECHNOLOGY (Phosphate Free) Used from about 2000 good for 5 years / 100,000 miles

Orange is O.A.T “PURE” ORGANIC ACID TECHNOLOGY This technology is good for 5 years / 150,000 miles

Red and Orange have less environmental impact.

You need them year round to prevent engine corrosion as well as in winter to prevent freezing

Typical construction is:

Glycol: 95%
Ethylene Glycol
Propylene Glycol ( low-tox products )

Corrosion Inhibitors: 1 to 4%
Inorganic/ Organic

Water 1 to 3.5%
Antifoam 10 to 1000ppm
Bitterant ~70ppm
Dye Trace

There is also a yellow one made by Prestone which will mix with any colour antifreeze without changing the original colour.

So for RR use Red, Orange or the Prestone product. Paul Redding

Scotland 2014 Range Rover Vogue SDV6 Santorini Black

Thanks Steve,

I'd done research and actually saw many favourable views and review about Prestone AF/ coolant.

My thoughts were, if not able to use my main dealer supplied coolant and hastily needed to use a different make:

A. Was it the correct spec for the 4.2 SC? ; &

B. Could a different make of coolant be safely mixed with the existing MD supplied coolant?

Due to the distance from my MD, I went for a litre of Jaguar coolant from our local Jaguar dealership (more expensive than the RR supplied coolant, however using the JLR logic bomb). In the event, although I've now used up my MD supplied XLC OAT, I've sourced the coolant discharge to an open bleed screw which I've 'sorted' and so have not actually had to use the Jaguar coolant yet which then gave me time to ask my MD if that spec Jaguar coolant was compatible because obviously I don't want to do anything that might be deemed to invalidate the LR warranty.

As mentioned, the MD has put in writing that the above spec Jaguar coolant is compatible.

Thumbs Up

Yes saw the post on it, the important thing is the O.A.T.

The Pink colourant is just a way of implying the OE product has something special in it "A sprinkling of fairy dust" Rolling Eyes

It doesn't need to be Pink and it will mix Paul Redding
