Coolant - how much and what type?

OK, this should hopefully be a simple one for someone on here.

Here's the scenario, at the end of August I finally got fed up with the slow coolant loss that had plagued me for months and decided to change the radiator ( which was showing some staining at one of the seams ), that cured the leak, but my mechanic filled the system with water only, just as a proof that we wernt still losing anything, plus it was summer so no danger of anything freezing.
Soooo now I have a watertight, and full cooling system.

My questions are;
1. Ive read lots about specific antifreeze types and not mixing different types etc, so whats the ideal type to use? Assuming I dont have anything in there at the moment so cant really mix it.

2. How much water should I drain and replace with antifreeze to reach a required water/antifreeze ratio?
Roughly of course.....

Thanks

Regardless of it being summer anti freeze also contains corrosion inhibators.

Not a good idea to run the system with just water for any length of time.

Suggest you drain it both from the rad and engine block, give a good flush then refill with 50/50. .

Is it safe to top up with the same spec and type coolant albeit made by a different manufacturer?

Main dealer where I got this pictured coolant seems a bit far to go:

Local jaguar dealer says they use "Jaguar's own" so wondering whether to buy that or some other branded but equivelant spec coolant from say Halfords or ECP.

Trying to top the system up to see if it will stabilise before returning car to main dealer if problem persists.

Thanks Thumbs Up

I would seriously think about using another mechanic my friend... Thats not good practice at all... At best he should have booked you in to replace your coolant rather than leave you to potentially run around for months without... Rolling Eyes

Parts Dept at RR main dealer said as long as the coolant is pink, organic and same spec it can be mixed with that of a different manufacturer to the one they use. Better safe than sorry!

As the RR dealership was too far to justify going to for pink coolant, visited the local Jaguar dealership this afternoon and was assured this pink coolant is suitable for the 4.2 and can be safely added to top up the existing RR dealer supplied coolant.

Difficult to compare them from labelling but all seems logical, particularly following the 'JLR franchise supplied' part!

Thumbs Up

Main dealer has today confirmed that the below Jaguar pink antifreeze coolant is suitable for the L322 4.2 SC and is made of the same ingredients as the Oat 5 that they use.

Thumbs Up
