Yes.

There is one in Frankfurt that takes you up to a restaurant.

Yup
Had one in the office of pharmaceutical company I worked for in 80's and 90's.

Used it all the time - quicker than either waiting for the lift or going to staircase.

Not there anymore - Whole office block plus production plant now demolished and corporation a few mergers on!!

We had one at Uni in one of our buildings, it was awesome! Thumbs Up

We were told NEVER to stay in it as it goes over the top or under the bottom - but of course we did, and we didn't die.

Health and safety would have a field day with these now though, you could literally be squashed and cut in two if you got it wrong. Discovery 4 HSE

I heard about a guy who when the clocks changed got his early morning erection an hour later when he was in the lift, and he was standing too close to the entrance/exit. Shocked

For those who've never seen one in action...

They used to have one in the Claremont Tower at Newcastle University, but it was removed after several injuries and one fatality. A student panicked as they went over the top, tried to get out and suffered fatal injuries.

I used to love going in it and was sad to see it go.

Were you at Newcastle? We had one in one of the rezzies (Leazes tower I think it was) and the chain broke. Very nasty. Great fun riding it though. Graham

Oops, just seen Tigger's reply. Claremont tower, quite right. I was at Newcastle 75-78. Graham
