Sorry for the delay,

The soundproofing will be ordered this month to be fitted as soon as it arrives. The wife decided that the house needed more paint of various colours, so soundproofing money disappeared lol

I'll post results when I have them. Bushy

you guys should try a 'refined' engine like the TD5 in the disco 2 what a noisy beast that is, and coming from a v8 its like you are pulling something around all day. unless you clog it! and when you start it up and drive off, it sounds like you've just dropped a toolbox down the stairs! I think the soundproofing in that car is just carpet!
Honestly, its a bit like if you are angle gringing a sheet of steel, in a garage, it makes a noise, real loud! but if you put your hand on the steel it quietens down, but you feel the vibrations. That is the effect of being inside a TD5.

England 2011 Range Rover Autobiography TDV8 Santorini Black

I know it is an old thread but thought I would add something incase anyone searches.

On the 2006 models there is an additional sound deadening under engine tray (tray and deadening pad - two parts) directly below the oil sump that fixes directly behind the front engine undertray on all models. I bought a used one from ebay for £60 and fitted it to my 2004 which never had it from new. It fits perfectly and the fixing holes line up with the chassis holes already there. Seems odd that they kept the area open down there as it allows the sound to escape out under the car.

Seems to definitely take the edge off the diesel clatter and turbo whistle, dulling it down and even if only a decibel or two quieter it makes driving it with the windows down much more pleasant in summer.

For good measure I fixed a noise killer engine blanket on top of the engine to help absorb any noise, there is a lot of space in the engine bay. They are used on defenders etc.

Next step will be to add sound proofing between the bonnet and the LR deadening bonnet pad and possibly in the wheel arches. Silent Coat is a cheaper version of dynamat that has good reviews and is easy to install.

It might just be me imagining it, but anything that makes me enjoy driving it more is always a good thing, even if only largely a placebo.

I plan on keeping the car for a long time and the quieter the engine noise the better. Tom
