Well this is always an interesting debate. My tight fisted bro only ever buys supermarket diesel; but his is a company passat so he aint paying the bills on maintenance. I've always used the premium fuels where available; usually Shell V Power but also BP Utlimate. There is a huge difference in my experience. In my Freelanders (first gen and second gen)you nticed the better running and pick up, but in the RRS's and the FFRR, the difference is noticeable. In the RRS (2.7 TDV6), a tank of regular Sainsburys muck gave me a range (actually recorded miles, I'm that sad) of 490-500 miles. On Shell V Power, a tank went for 550-555 miles. This was over several journeys at different times of the year - use and ambient temp make a difference to consumptiopn. In the FFRR, regular diesel gives me about 450 on a tank, premium gives me about 490-500. All for an extra £20 a tank max. This going into a car which is expensive, so you need a deepish pocket to run it properly anyway. Its a no brainer for me!

No mention of petrol or supermarket, apologies to those who posted about diesel .

thread resurrection...

as i have said ,i have always used supermarket fuel with no problems but a large consensus is that branded fuel is better because of the additives..
so giving all the benefit of doubt i started using esso fuel in early february to see if mine ran better or the mpg improved , so here is what i found.
the fuel cost was the same ,but for 0.02 pence difference, the mpg reduced by about 1-2mpg [?] and the FF ran as sweet as it did on supermarket fuel..the mpg reduction is strange as over the 2-3 months my driving habits didnt change..
so i'm back on asda fuel now ...
let the debate continue.. Mr. Green ... - .- -.

I bought a gallon of the Millers additive to add to my Tesco diesel, after reading the thread on here. I keep forgetting to add it (senile I guess) but can't tell If I have added it or I haven't. I have to say I can't tell any difference with it or without it, fuel consumption varies between 26 - 29 mpg but that just depends on what I'm up to (motorway or urban) and how fast I drive.

BUT it may be affecting positively the parts Supermarket fuels alone don't reach Confused

I think the additive may last me a long time Very Happy Geoff

I opted to use BP Ultimate every second fill up and I feel that overall performance is better and adding extra miles per gallon (certainly) on the motorway. About 3 to 4 miles extra per gallon Smile
