Does the supercharger need any particular maintenance?

I'm really missing selling my ffrr, it was the right thing to do at the time, but I'm already wishing of what to get further down the line.

I'm not the biggest fan of diesels mainly cause of their complexity nowadays through variable geometry turbos, egr and dpf stuff. Too complicated IMHO and I feel that with the very high rpm, the turbos are a component that will go well before other engine parts.

So looking round, I have in mymind to stick with petrol. Ignoring the mpg aspects, are there any big complexities to the superchargers that means they need a set amount of maintenance or a particular life span before needing serious work. A bit like how the auto boxes need a regular service schedule even though initially, they were labeled sealed for life. V8 or else ...

its been suggested that the s/c can have its oil changed at around the 60k miles mark and indeed there are 'kits' available on ebay...but no-one has actually done this as a diy job yet [afaik]

Generally, are turbos less reliable than superchargers? Previously..

I think they are overall, but I think the gap in reliability is narrower than it used to be. Turbos I think in the past suffered from heat and seal issues and the chargers less so as they sat on top and dont have to deal with exhaust heat.

If its a case of a periodic oil change, then that's not too bad. I'm more concerned in whether they have main fail points that make them finicky and a pita. V8 or else ...

Our SC is on 73k miles. It will be due a scheduled service in April. Aside to that are we saying the supercharger should be serviced around now?
