Ordered a 7 pin plug off eBay (£3.99) and an Optimate fused lead (£2.99), cut the terminals off the leads and connected to the plug. Works a treat with my Optimate charger!

I can keep the battery topped up now.

I have been thinkign of this since my battery error, do you have a pic or instructions. I'd need 13pin but have the male ready to roll Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

does that bypass the Battery module by charging on trickle via the tow plug ? Far to many gone...

If you want to know why there are the price they are, they are a) fused internally and b) made splash proof - both of which use more time and materials than a 1 minute cut, screw and throw in a jiffy bag job

Anyone got a wiring diagram please, I have a 16A Ring digital charger and the 13pin Plug but just need to know how to do it...I think there is a kit to purchase over on disco3 ? Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

Some day you may well need one to get in your locked, dead car.
Just don't keep it in the car.

The optimate lead comes with a built in waterproof fuse holder. I simply opened up the 12s plug and using a diagram, connected it to the plus and minus.

I built my own, buying parts off eBay and with some good advice on the electrical side from nicedayforit.

Not being a "trailer" regular needed to understand the white socket!

For flexbility, I put croc clips on the end, and use it mainly with my Ctek MXS 5, still working on creating a location for it to live "somewhere outside the car" so if the battery was ever to drain/fail and leave me locked out, it should be a simple case of connecting to another battery (once the lead is retrieved from its place of hiding) regardless of where I am. .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember

i used a 12v cctv connector,it fitted very nice in the rubber grommet in trailer plug
i can leave the trailer plug in all the time without a trailing lead
and quick release if forgot about

Should try and sell these to dealers......

Every lr in my local md showroom is hooked up to a ctek somehow fed into the engine bay from under the car. Mind you i suppose that would require them to have tow bars fitted. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I have the Black single LR OE towing electric socket fitted (ie lights only, not the grey for fridge power ect).

Can I use this, or do you have to have the second socket electrics ( grey socket) to use this charging via towing electrics idea??

No, you MUST have the additional 12S (grey) 7 pin socket or the single 13 pin socket. The black 7 pin (12N) socket does not have the connection to the battery.

Don't know why LR bother offering a single 12N 7 pin socket option
