Time to sort the Aircon...

Hit 27C here yesterday so time to sort the Aircon.

Was out of gas when I got it, took it to my man who vaced it out and it held the vacuum for 30 mins so we thought it was ok, put some dye in it and refilled it but it only lasted three days....

Can't see the dye anywhere but the front of the condenser is hard to see and the back even harder....

Working on the assumption that it's usually the condenser I've ordered one.

Does anyone know where the dryer is??? Can't see it anywhere obvious???

Cheers Pete

its just a dessicant cartridge which slips into the side tube of the condenser, held in with a plug and circlip.

yes its in the condenser. -don't open it to the elements till you are ready to seal it up ie when you actually need to install it. I changed mine, and changed the pump at same time. Spray the torx bolts overnight as they tend to be stiff, and it twists the condenser itself trying to remove them. the unions come straight out as they have a peg to help locate them, so don't twist them. I had the water rad out doing mine.
I was told of a tip when reconnecting the water rad hoses, as one of mine popped off at first warm up. -instead of sliding hose clips back down when you think its on snug, leave them down and push the hose over the rad and wait for it to 'click' its also good to ease it on with a small amount of vasalene, or fairy liquid.
Its also a good idea to inspect the unions on the AC yourself in the first couple of days, with a paintbrush and fairy liquid. brush over all the joints, when hot and when cold. and try and reach down to the pump connections too. this is when system is most likely to show you leaks! not when its all gone and you cant tell from where.
lastly, you need to run the ac for an hour after regassing (at least) so plan a journey to fully pump the goodness through the system. and use the aircon at least once a week

cool as a cucumber!

Cheers for that chaps, handy advise, I take it there are "o" rings on the condenser connections??

I have a box of assorted sizes I bought to do the valve bodies on the Merc's suspension so hopefully be able to change them as well.... Pete
