Late L322s have been going like this too. Surprised the security hole hasn't been fixed.

I wonder if it just makes sense to completely disconnect the OBD II port on our cars ???? I mean physically cut the cable and put a connector or switch in that we only know about.

It would be annoying to get it connected again when needed but how often do we really use it ??

If that is the weak spot and it is not yet addressed by JLR, then this may help.

The steering wheel lock (unless you have the full disc covering version maybe) doesn't work. Take a bolt cutter and cut straight through the rim of the steering wheel itself (apparently that is only mild steel) and then bend open the steering wheel and remove the lock. Seen it done on TV years ago in a car show. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

to put a physical steering lock onto a £100k motor just isnt right, its like putting a roofrack on the space shuttle so it can carry extra cargo..
i agree with eugene and i'd get the dealer to disconnect the obd in the engine bay somewhere or put an in-line switch on one of the wires... ... - .- -.

The OBD2 socket is in the cabin Stan, so your car would need to be entered/broken into to gain access anyway...

Wow, we just assume that this type of theft is a thing of the past with modern security but I guess anything is possible.

That's the problem with driving a marque that is so desirable and popular, I doubt they'd want to steal something bland like a Eurobox in so much of a hurry.

A tracker would help but I bet they have a way of getting around this too. Discovery 4 HSE

Adam, the only way into the "brain" of the car would be through the OBD2 socket... Im no expert on these matters, someone like SteveMF would be your man Thumbs Up

so here's my solution,
dealer has to enter a service menu where he can access the obd port which needs an activation code,
dealer rings up LR central who verify its the dealer and give a 'rolling' code which is only usable once,
dealer then enters the code using the steering wheel buttons and this switches on the obd port,
dealer sticks in diagnostic into port and proceeds with work,
when job done , dealer re-enters the same code to switch off port.

The thieves will only find a way around that system too Stan... Whistle

Then you get back to that age old issue of owners getting hit over the head for their keys!

It would appear that if the thieving bas Censored ds want your car then they are going to get it one way or the other.

Fitting a tracking device maybe the only way of attempting to avoid this issue. While it will not stop them taking the car it heightens the possibility of the car being found and returned.
