Price Bench-marking - Servicing and Maintenance

Forgive me if this is covered on the forum already, but to the best of my searching abilities, I have not found it..

Would members be interested in creating a pricing benchmark database for the cost they have paid for replacement items on their FF?. Some items will be generic and others engine / year specific..as an example>>

2008 TDV8 Indie Front brake pad replacement (Brembo) £200 (example only)
2008 TDV8 Indie Rear brake pad replacement £120
2008 TDV8 Indie Front Antiroll bar upper link bar bushes £120

The idea being that when we look to get service work undertaken by MD or an indie, we have an idea of the price range we should expect. I know that there will be regional varience, but if one MD or indie says £400 and another £600, then that would be flagged up. At the end of the day, the part costs and labour time should be about the same with just the labour rate and profit element being flexible.

This is driven by my latest experience. FF failed its MOT yesterday for both NSR and OSR upper suspension arms had excessive play and the both upper Rosery Bushes had to be replaced at a cost of £290 and I had no idea if where that would sit in the range of prices. By the way, I am not unhappy with the price (cos I have no idea) or workmanship as I have always had good service from my indie, but would have liked to have known if its competitive or not.

Any positive thoughts on this? GONE 2010 Facelifted 3.6 TDV8 - Stornoway Grey + 22" Overfinch Olympus

Would be happy to provide base costs for doing it DIY, and would include a rough idea of "my time" what ever that is worth? Thumbs Up .

It's a thought Joe...The parts cost for a particular job could be useful Thumbs Up

I don't want it to be a stick to beat indies down with (you in particular CTC) just a rough guide a bit like the best fuel prices thread that went around recently.

It's a great idea, especially for people who have cars 'in for work' and get that call saying it needs this or that and is going to cost x amount and as you say, you've nothing to benchmark.

Maybe better for any entries or posts - if it happens and aside to the post time/ date stamp, to - actually quote the month and year the work is/ was done so that costs take into account inflation etc.

Thumbs Up

If members can contribute and then it later gets wikified, it'll be a useful guide for all.

if users put when they have had the work done and mileage too that'd be great Thumbs Up GONE 2010 Facelifted 3.6 TDV8 - Stornoway Grey + 22" Overfinch Olympus
