Whine noise on take off and slowing down.

Just noticed a new sound this morning sounds like a whine but disappears as car goes faster. I have tested car in neutral and revved engine and sound is audible at low revs then disappears until winding down so noise is not drive train related. I have no noticeable decrease in performance or increase in smoke. Thinking it might be a split turbo hose which I know can be common. Anyone confirm that's what it might be or maybe suggest alternatives? also excuse my lack of tech knowledge but are turbo hoses on tdv8 the 2 pipes that go into radiator? can't check as pitch dark outside.

Thanks

I have noticed the same on my disco, sounds like a low whistle/someone blowing over the top of a bottle. Moderate load at about 1500rpm.

Came to the same conclusion as you, that it is a leak in the turbo pipe somewhere. Haven't had chance to investigate yet. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

A split of any size in the turbo pipes to intercooler would def result in loss of power I would guess tensioner/pumps etc Worse things happen at sea! Well thats what swmbo said when WRENS came to sea!!!

I just had this problem. I let my local dealer have a listen to make sure I wasn't hearing things and after they inspected the engine bay with the engine running they found that one of the turbo hoses was torn as shown in the first photo. Cost me 110EUR for a new one because it comes in a three-part set (part no. LRPNH500460) shown in the second photo. Working fine now, though Thumbs Up

Hmmm, spoke too soon. After a long trip to the Alps and back the noise has returned, if not quite as loud as before... Neutral 2012 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 automatic (LHD), Santorini Black
