Update - Car going back to supplying dealer tomorrow for rectification. I get a loan car whilst mine is there.

Update. I now have the car back after a few days during which it went into Farnell in Guiseley. They changed the suspension compressor for new and that's all OK. The next bit stretches my imagination. They say that they cleared a 'sdd code relating to the car being jump started', road tested the vehicle and all is well. I didn't jump start the vehicle but I suppose it could have been before my ownership. You'd think they would read fault codes during a vehicle inspection (they did one prior to me buying the car) but maybe not. The car drove fine on the way back but I'm sure you can understand my scepticism.
Time will tell.

I would keep an open mind. If there is a problem, it will show up soon enough.

Im pretty sure they don't read codes prior to selling the vehicles, they will give it a service if needed and polish it, rectify any obvious faults covered by their multi point check, but check codes.....nah.

Give it a good boot about, see how it goes, with all the electronic gubbins and whatnots in the cars it could be fixed by a simple reset, stranger things have happened.Heres hoping its sorted  There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

It seems you've been treated quite fairly so far given you say you didn't buy it from a franchised RR dealer and they've promptly sent it to Farnell for main dealer remedial work, which, from a volume car seller's point of view, would appear to be their best effort to fully, finally and expeditiously resolve any and all outstanding issues.

A RR main dealer would be unlikely to try and deliberately fob you off with a cleared code outcome as opposed to fitting a new gearbox as fitting a gearbox would surely be better business for them?

It all seems positive and reputable action from the seller to me so far?

You mentioned that your car was covered by "an insurance warranty". If that warranty does not last for at least 6 months from your date of purchase, then given the earlier suggestions that the gearbox might have been at the end of its life:
I would put it in writing to the selling garage that you are grateful for their response to date, that you hope the Farnell diagnosis was correct but continue to have ongoing reservations about the longevity of the gearbox in the light of the initial diagnosis and ask for their commitment that within the first 6 months of your ownership - given that this potential issue did arise at the very start of your ownership - should any further gearbox/ related problems arise, that between the seller and the warranty company, they will properly remedy them on your behalf and at no cost to you.

If no record of it ever having been done on your SC, I would also consider having the gearbox 'serviced' anyway which many forum members advocate for prolonging the life of the gearbox (you can buy an oil and filter change kit for this work); and I would consider extending the warranty when it is due to expire.

Yes, service from the supplying dealer has been reasonable. I have put a few hundred miles on the car since it went to Farnell without any issues.
The car does have a 6 month warranty so in a sense that's OK.
My main issue is that I can't find (get a recommendation) a service garage local to me that I can trust for ongoing work such as you suggest.

If your car has a warranty on it and Land Rover want to change the gearbox then I'd let them. At least if it doesn't solve the problem you'll have a nice new gearbox with a 12 month warranty on it and they'll be scratching their heads about where to go next!

I'm afraid the warranty company would not entertain the idea. I tend to agree with them. Anyway, if they can't diagnose the issue correctly, what sort of job are they going to do?
