Scotland 2007 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Java Black
Value service vs full service

Booked my RR into Shields (main dealer) for 120k mile service and was give option of a value service at £199 vs a full service at £676 Shocked I'm using dealer as I get occasional TPMS equipment failure that I want them to comment on.

What are the collective views on the full service....is it worth the extra? Or should I get the value service and buy an IID tool Twisted Evil

Interested in opinions, thanks ! 2007 TDV8 Vogue SE Java Black

Option C: Get the full service from a reputable specialist instead. Si. <This is my name.

I got a value service from Shields once. They do the absolute minimum and even suggested they used different oil to the "proper" service. Shocked
They later corrected that.

I now use the guys at Monarch in Dalmarnick. John and his guys know their stuff and won't do anything unnecessary, whilst making sure they check out the important bits that the value service misses out. Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

I thought what service it has was dictated by what it had last time ?

Is there not a cycle similar to oil service, minor service, oil, major, oil, minor etc or something ?

Could say in the service schedule.

I know mine's an older model, I did the big service last time, so don't need one again for a bit..... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

I don't like the sound of that one little bit either they are a main dealer and cary out the service schedule they are meant to or they are not
GBP199 will get you an hour of their time and some oil , a service is a lot more than just dropping the oil out .
Find a good independent Shields are the worst anyway and must be avoided at all costs . 2008 MY Supercharged

I ran up against this whilst looking for a 07 plate TDV8, found one with 72,000 miles and FULL main dealer service history. I rang the dealer and asked specific questions about fluid changes and found the FULL service history was a joke... It had had "economy" services it's entire life!!!!!! There was nothing in the service book to indicate this....

So all that had been changed was the engine oil.. What a farce....

So if you are buying a new car, phone the dealer stamps on the book and ask them..

Sorry for the thread hijack, I'd do option C as well. Pete

^^^ the service strategy doesn't apply to the value service. They only do the minimum.

^^ it's their way of "saving the customer money". That's why I now use a trusted Indy, who will do a proper service in line with the service strategy, at a much better price and will actually pay attention to the car, rather than rush it through to save money Thumbs Up Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

might as well just wipe a rag around the oil filter and call it a service

, but saying that when I checked the air filter on my car it looked as if it had been through the sahara desert , yet had apparently been changed at the 60k service just 2000 miles previously .

yeah of course it had Rolling with laughter

^ Dad bought a van from a company my uncle worked for. They would buy new vans, put 100000km on them in a year, then sell them on and get new ones. They always bought from the same main dealer and had the dealership do all there servicing. Dad went to change the oil and do a general checkup after getting the van. There were still factory stickers indicating that the van had the ORIGINAL oil and oil filter after 100000km. The company had been charged for a service(with oil change) every three months for the year. Seems it had been going on for a long time... Whistle

We won't use Shields any more as they're prices are wired to the moon.

We found Taggarts on Maryhill Road in Glasgow to be much cheaper then Shields for the same services on our TDV8's. Shields are now owned by Taggarts anyway.

Our 4.4 TDV8 is on a Service Plan with Land Rover. We priced the same plan with Sheilds and Taggarts. Shields wanted a £400 deposit and £50 a month, Taggarts wanted a £300 deposit and £30 a month. This covers all services for as long as we have the car.

We paid £300 up from to Taggarts which covered the cost of the first service, then £30 x 12, so £360 later the 2nd service is paid for, and again, 12 months later the major service is paid for. Works out at a good deal. It's also nice picking the car up and not having to pay a penny.

It's also a nice touch when Taggarts give you a complimentary box of shortbread when you pick the car up. Only thing we ever left Shields with was a bill!

I do however find the parts department at Shields much better then Taggarts. Scott in parts at Shields is very good and will do whatever he can to help you get the parts you need with minimal fuss.
