Sloshing Water Sound Behind Dash???

Help, i have started to get the sound of sloshing water behind the dash when i go around sharp corners or round abouts etc. Sad

I've been reading this may be caused by air being in the heater matrix behind the dash but how do I get rid of this?

I've tried filling up the expansion tank from cold and running the engine hot with the blowers on full heat but no joy?

Is there any way of bleeding the air out?

I've just recently had the alternator changed so this may have let air into the coolant system?

I have a L322 4.4 2002 V8 Petrol

Yeah, it sounds contained in something like having a long bottle of water being tipped from side to side?

Found similar problem listed with the Disco:

Follow these steps to bleed the heater system:

    Park on Level Ground.
Turn the Ignition on, but not engine running.
Turn both heater dials round to 28, fan speed on 1 and fascia vent to 3 red blobs.
Remove Expansion Tank cap (you should see a tiny jet of water near the top, you should also hear the electronic coolant pump running)
At this point you should hear any air gurgling as it hits the electric pump.
Top up the coolant whilst pulsing/squeezing the top radiator hose. (this pushes air bubbles along) Fill the coolant right to the top, if you have an air lock, after a few minutes some bubbles will come out and the level will drop.

Basically with the engine running it's difficult to bleed the heater, or to get an accurate idea of what's going on. With just the ign on the secondary coolant pump will be running which just pumps the coolant round the heater matrix.

It's one of those things that once you've done a couple of times you'll "get a feel for it"

Had a go at bleeding the system but havn't really been able to improve the sloshing sound?

I also don't get the water jet until i start the engine, is that normal?

Remove Expansion Tank cap (you should see a tiny jet of water near the top, you should also hear the electronic coolant pump running)

I had a go and the squeezing with the engine off and on but can't get the water level to drop?

Any ideas? L322 2002 4.4 V8 LPG

Could you hear the aux coolant pump running? With your head in the engine bay you should be able to hear it, sort of like a quiet washer pump...

Oops, I think I gave you duff info with that. I think the small jet of water is the one to keep an eye out for if you're bleeding the main system...

Ok, so I've tried every method of bleeding the coolant system but with no joy?

I've had it suggested i might have a blockage of the A/C drain tube causing a build up of condensation? i'm not so sure?

Where is the drain tube for the L322 Question , i've found lots of posts for the P38 but none for the L322?

I've found a drain tube running from under the trim panel next to the passenger footwell leading out near the transmission - is this it Question ? L322 2002 4.4 V8 LPG

Just wondered if anyone else had any info on this????

I've checked the secondary heater pump, checked both heater valves and all work ok.

I've tried every method of bleeding the system with no change.

I've checked both aircon drain tubes and both are clear?

I still have water sloshing from side to side in my dash... Big Cry L322 2002 4.4 V8 LPG

Good news....possibly. Very Happy

Local independant LR Garage I spoke to last week phoned me back and said they had managed to speak to another Garage who has dealt with this problem!!!

They say it's caused by water leaking in from where the wiper spindle is attached and sitting inside a section behind this, the answer is simply to drill a hole to allow the water to run out.

I'll be investigating this and finding the correct bit to drill....fingers crossed.

I'll take photo's incase this re-occurs for anyone else. L322 2002 4.4 V8 LPG

Crikey, it would make sense; i always believed it to be trapped water but no way of knowing where or how. I rang a combination 12 local and specialist RR garages yesterday but none had heard of the problem on a RR.

I really hope you have found the problem and would really appreciate any guidance or pictures to show where and how to drill the hole so i can also solve the same issue

Fingers crossed

Steve

Yay, fixed it, I'll tell you how if you give me £1000.....(same as dealer price). Laughing

Only joking...

Took my RR to the garage who said they'd spoken to another garage who'd fixed this before.

Under the lower windscreen finisher is metal box section running the entire width of the car.

We drilled one hole in this and out poured the water, see picture below.

I drove home with still a little water sloshing around.

I drilled a second hole on the other side just to make it easier for the water to run out.

A little more driving around and now the water has nearly all gone.

Give it a few more days and it will all be gone!

Bit worrying though how the water got in there though, and will it come back? L322 2002 4.4 V8 LPG
