Anyone done the UAD CarPlay Upgrade (2012)?

Considering doing this to my Westie:

Has anyone done it? Can/will a typical ICE dealer fit it?

Thanks. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster

No typical dealer will fit, nor car audio places. You need a specialist who has fitted them before.

To be aware obviously that the carplay is on a low resolution screen not much bigger than today's phones.

On my L322 I went for the screen replacement option:

Gary the screen you have fittted looks good, I’ve got couple of questions;

Does it still pop the reversing camera up when you select reverse?

Perhaps the most important one as I’m looking for a solution for my dads L322 who won’t want to stream music/radio from is phone does the updated screen have a way to play the stock FM tuner or even does the screen have a FM tuner built in so you can listen to the radio whilst using Waze or Google maps for your navigation.

I’ve had a UAD CarPlay system for just over a year; it works well in general but has some small glitches:

1.) the microphone on the UAD system seems to get conflicted with the incar system when making calls or sending voice notes. For example “Hey Siri, play music xyz” works fine. “Hey siri call home” seems to work most of the time, reliability of incoming calls is a bit flaky but using Siri to do speech to txt for the body of a txt message does not work in my experience.

2.) The installation is dependent on a loop back plug in the audio-in of the rear passenger console. This is a bit cludgey and I’m convinced that one day this will get kicked out and lost for ever.

3.) Agree 100% with @GaryRR on the screen upgrade. Mine is on the OEM screen. It’s okay but I wish I had a full width touch screen only without side buttons.

The main advantage for me is upgraded Navigation apps, Apple Music, podcasts and audible. Well worth it for that.

Lastly, try looking up Lee Yates of UK Light Modifications on Facebook; he travels around the county doing loads of these installations. I have no experience with him specifically but he seems to do 2 or 3 installations a week and there’s an advantage in having someone who does the installation regularly. TDV8 4.4 2012

Yes, the reversing camera still pops up, and it has an FM tuner built in. You have the choice of using CarPlay or downloading apps (e.g. Google Maps, Spotify) directly to the screen and using that as the Infotainment system. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Gary thanks for that, gives me an option I’ll take a look on Ali Express and see if I can find a screen.

That’s fine in my use case or to be precise my OAP dads case as long as he can still listen to Radio 2 or 4, still having a working reversing camera via the screen but have updated sat Nav via using Google maps or Waze he will be happy.

He hasn’t got RSE, never touches the fadar and I don’t think he has ever put CDs in the CD changer.
