Hi all,

For the life of me I cannot work out how the auto wipers work. When I turn them on, they work randomly, sometimes they do not move and then sometimes when it is dry they wipe constantly. On my old disco, they worked on how heavy the rain was, but with the RR I cannot seem to fathom them out.

Also, but I'm not sure if it is connected, the auto headlights sometime do not come on when it's pitch black. They seem to come on when I think it's bright enough, but not when I think it's getting dark such as a tunnel.

It does have a sensor module behind the mirror and there is no makers name or logo on the windscreen.

one click up and they go onto auto, there's a lever that adjusts sensitivity..the auto mode has to be switched back on each time the engine is switched off... ... - .- -.

There must be a problem with mine then as on the motorway where there was a lot of spray and they did mot move at all, nor did they when I went through a puddle and soaked the screen. They did work though when I was driving slow and there was virtually no rain.

Is there a way I can temporarily stop the auto part and just us the intermittent?

dont think so, its off,auto, speed 1 and the speed 2...

it might be that your sensor is goosed, do a search i'm sure this was covered recently... ... - .- -.

Sometimes there is a type of rain that "lands" rather than falls, and this takes some encouragement/bravery to get the rain sensor to kick in, it is a bit like playing chicken - who will blink first (or before I hit the car in front!)

They also adjust depending on the speed of the car, so if stopped at lights, you have to hope they fire before green comes

Often mine will come on when I start the car (having been left in the on position) even if dry, but need to be switched off and on again to make them work if raining. Get into the habit eventually.... .

Sounds like either you have a defective sensor (approx £45) or your car has had a cheap wind screen fitted with a poor quality sensor...

Thanks Craog, that's what I thought. The auto lights don't always come on when it's pitch black, so it does sound like the sensor.

I thought I heard on the D3 site that if you removed the fuse for the auto wipers it reverted back to manual intermittent. Is that true? I never tried as my D3 didn't have auto wipers.

The funny thing is, i had the same problem with one of my FF's after a replacement screen was fitted (not well) and the sensor was not clipped in place correctly...
