New car, what do I need to do?

I've just bought an 04 L322. Is there anything I really need to check or change?

So far I've decided to:

- Change gearbox oil and filter
- Change engine oil
- Check and/or change diff oils
- Flush radiator (people here have a tendency to use tap water)
- Change PCV hoses
- Change belts
- Check timing chain has been done

What else should I look out for?

You are very right about using tapwater. My 06 4.2 blew both heat exchangers due to the bloody tapwater they put in. I was not amused to say the least Sad

List looks good, would add brake fluid as well (very hygroscopic stuff).

Air filter of course.

You may also want to change the fuel filter.

Is it a petrol or diesel ?? MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

It's a 4.4 petrol. I'll change fuel/oil/pollen filters.

It's having new rear discs put in so I assume that also means new fluid? I hope so anyway.

I just noticed you're in Nusajaya! I've been looking into moving there!

You don't do anything to the hydraulic side of the brakes when changing discs, ask them to change the fluid whilst they are doing the discs, will be cheaper than doing it on its own...

Don't worry about the timing chain unless it's noisy.

Add transfer box to your oil check/change list..

Only use genuine oil in everything, do not accept "same specification" oil as it just won't be....

Then stick a big grin on your face and enjoy.... Pete

owners workshop manual says use freshwater in the coolant. however if I lived in a very limescale area in the south I think is use rainwater , filtered . Up here our water is very soft with very low mineral contact

Changed coolant last night. Radiator and coolant reservoir are new, which is nice.

After a year of owning a Subaru I had forgotten I even owned tools. Three days after buying this all tools are back out; I call my spares guy and he mentions that he hasn't heard from me in a year, which is when I sold my last RR. Sigh.

At least working on the L322 you don't walk away with bloodied knuckles and fingers unlike the classic.

VANOS noise is gone with oil change \o/

Changing PCV hoses tomorrow. Still had original BMW clamps so I assume they've never been changed.

Last night after being on the road for about 15 hours with no problems it started bogging down and losing power. I pulled over and gave it a few minutes and it was fine.

Will change fuel filter and spark plugs in the next few days.

Any other ideas what could be wrong with it?

It also had its first taste of mud. Amazed I didn't get stuck considering I don't have good tires yet.

Found your post re: power loss when searching for the same issue. You find out why it does it?

It hasn't done it again but I assume it has something to do with a vacuum leak.

Could also be dirty fuel filter, dirty injectors, 02 sensors. I haven't had my codes read yet.
