What was that like to drive?

Did you know that Land Rover tested a V8 diesel called the Thor project and it never came into production in the 80's, probably cos RR drivers at the time saw no need for frugality.

Was the V8 diesel the one they also called project Iceberg.. perhaps project Titanic would have been more apt, I seem to remember reading about it years ago in LRO they just could not get the cooling system right or some such... Yes, Iceberg was the Rover V8 diesel project, Thor was when the petrol got Bosch management and lots of other changes. VM diesel was quite interesting - a separate head for each cylinder.

Tailgate corrosion - people have successfully claimed, there's a thread running somewhere.

Mine is a 2012MY but late 2011 reg.
I have a couple of seat squeaks that I must sort and I have had two instances of MFGS in 2000 miles.(Mad Fuel Gauge Syndrome!) I understand this is a fairly well known issue with the fuel gauge sender wiring. I'll see how it goes....
Otherwise, so far so good!

Very happy.

As CTC says, the 4.4 TDV8 is excellent. More than a good replacement for our 4.2SC. It's smooth, slick, powerful, more frugal (more time on the road and less time at the pump); and very refined with its 8 speed gearing.

The interior is subtly more up to date too.

Was only looking for a 5.0SC to replace the 4.2 but when drawing a blank because couldn't find one in as good condition as our outgoing model, as luck would have it, ended up speculatively viewing our immaculate 4.4 and the rest is history.

Superb

TV module replaced.
Side window trims replaced at 30 months due corrosion.
Minor corrosion on rear arches, corrected by myself by painting with POR and fitting rubber seal strips.
Arm rest worn.
Suspension pump replaced with heavy duty unit.
Upper tailgate side rubbers replaced.
Engine making 'shucking' noise at tick over, oil pump replaced.
Turbo oil return pipe modification.
Front brake hose recall.

All under warranty.

Many thanks for all your inputs, was just sorting out finance and someone has swiped the car before I could get there. It will be a while before I can find another one in Green and sand around here if anywhere especially with 27,000 miles and one owner but will keep looking and keep all in mind that you advise.

Awareness of the potential issues and remedies and factoring them into the 'deal', including a written list of snags for the dealer to agree to sort through before collection...

I might consider parting with my FAULTLESS Galway Green, Sand interior, extended Burr Wood trim 2010.75 MY Autobiography 5.0 SC for the modest sum of say 50k GBP.  MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
