for me it wasn't just the price difference but the 'we're the best' attitude i got via my emails from JE...
there are members that are financially sound and £50 is nothing to them and there are members like myself that saved to get a [pre-owned] FFRR and try to run it as economically as possible ..i didnt think we had snobs on this forum but it appears we have. ... - .- -.

Scarey,

perhaps you can post the content of these "we are the best" emails from JE then we can all make a considered view.

Its not about being snobbish, its about potentially putting an expensive vehicle at risk, and with engine repairs which can run at £4k to £8k and gearboxes at £3k ish its a risk which for £50 imho is simply not worth it. No offence was intended and I sincerely hope it wasn't taken that way Thumbs Up

i wont post the emails as the 'attitude' view was mine and i dont wont to get into a debate over this..
when i made enquirys about a remap, RAPID gave me the best response and will probably give forum members a discounted price on remaps...this will give everyone a choice to go where they wish...
as for putting an expensive engine at risk, i sure most engine re-mappers get their business through reputation and on-going business and there are positive testimonials on the RAPID website...

i did get a bit pi**ed reading your post and i now appreciate no offence was intended .... ... - .- -.

Well, I emailed JE last week and all I've had to date is an automated reply. All I asked was if my 2002 with 92k was suitable for remap. Not a hard question is it?
My mate had his 335d BMW remapped at Viezu in Bromsgrove, giving him 360bhp and 40mpg. Might make some enquiries... 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

Not sure why everyone is so dismissive of good quality plug in boxes?? Have you tried them??? Or have you actually had first hand problems by using them???...I wouldn't always believe all the horror stories of engine/gearbox failures..if they were all true then nobody would buy them and more importantly nobody would manufacture them!! For the record I have a Chips Express plug in module in my 2010 RRS TDV8 and am amazed at the increased performance and the improved fuel economy..The chip cost £399 and comes with a 3 year warranty against any mechanical claim which is proven to be caused by the use of the module, it can also for £90 be reprogrammed if I happen to change the vehicle....Maybe someone here has more experience than me on all of this and can convince me to get rid of it ASAP ..but I did have a D3 re-mapped by Angel Tuning 5 years ago and wasn't that impressed unfortunately Sad Sad

update ...had the remap done by mike and sam at RAPID..i was made very welcome and had a tour of their unit which mike is still fitting out as they have only moved there in october...my existing map was downloaded, mike done his magic and then re-uploaded the new map. i decided on a fuel optimiser map but a power map is also available.
sam , my wife and i went for a test drive and i immediately found a smoother gear change and a more responsive throttle and slowing down to go around a round about the gear change didnt 'clunk' down as usual but seemed to keep in a higher gear which helped the RR go round smoothly..
on the motorway journey to RAPID , at 70/75 mph i was getting 22/23 mpg on the screen readout and on the journey home , and at the same speed the screen was reporting 26/27..i know that some people don't think the cars computer readout isn't accurate but until i do a full tank to full tank calculation these figures are encouraging...btw getting up to this speed seems faster and smoother..
i also travelled on 'a' roads at roughly 50mph with stops and starts and tops of 70mph and again before it was 22 mpg and now 27 mpg and the power was very good, in fact the car 'felt' lighter and nippy'er and not so 'brick' like...
update... town driving now produces a figure of 23/24 whereas before it was 20/22..
i know its early days and mike did say that it takes about 300 miles for the cars ecu to adapt to my driving so i'm hoping these mpg figures should go up...

mike and his staff are professional and friendly and are worth a visit..
i've been 'officially' informed by mike that our forum has a special 'group' price of £225 plus vat for a td6 remap, if you are interested ,ring mike or sam for more info...

i'm off to belgium in a few weeks time and this trip should give me a chance to test this remap and report back here... ... - .- -.
