Voltage readings.

Good morning.
I am thinkin that me alternator is failing.

Volts
On tickover = 13
Driving = 12.9/13.

I have a power drain when 'off and locked'

New battery.

Thursday while motorway cruising at 71mph the transfer box fail came up every 20secs or so then it tried a few times to go into safe mode.
When I slowed doon everything back to normal
Fluids changed and no leaks or heat probs.

I am getting the fast indicator flash at times and sporadic warnings of lights failing when all is ok.

So, could alternator be failing?
It has done 185k miles.

I have read somewhere that the light module in drivers footwell could be sus.

Ideas please.

Thanx in advance.

Sounds like alternator to me, you will probably find the battery will need swapping to, they don't like not getting enough charge and sulk a lot....

Power drain is a different ball game..... Pete

With those voltage readings whilst driving I think your alternator is failing too. Thumbs Up
The voltage drain you say you are experiencing could be related.
I would be inclined to either get it checked or changed as a matter of urgency.

Stick the multimeter on AC and see what you get. My bet is the diodes are failing and causing the current drain also. Thumbs Up Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

Thank yer.
Alternator ordered

Part of me is thinkn that if the alternator is failing then maybe its causing a wee drain
Anyways, new alternator from Santa on its way.

I will update when done

Assuming your earth straps are sound, i'd go with faulty alternator too.

Thank you for all the replies.
I went for a short drive last neet and reading was a steady 13.8.
I Still think alternator is reaching the end of its life
185,000 miles and 13 years so I can't complain

Now, I have been reliably informed that the ecu thingy in the drivers footwell can also throw up all the ghost faults that I have been getting.
Does anyone have any idea on its name please?

I now have a 200 mile trip home today which will prob be on a truck.
Not looking forward to it.

I think you may be referring to the headlight self levelling ecu which can cause problems through getting damp.
It was located at low level behind the passenger side footwell side panel.
You car may or may not have this fitted as the self levelling system was discontinued by LR as it simply didn't work.

What are you using to check the voltage whilst driving?

I am using a plug in volt meter
I dont suppose its 100% but gives me an an idea within a few volts.

I dont have leveling headlamps

Update.
Managed 100miles and decided to get recovered.
Kept going in and out of failsafe mode which put me into damage limitation mode as I was about to hit the A34 in rush hour.
Got back to my mechanic chappy who put it onto his PC reader.
Not surprising it lit up like a xmas tree.
Scratch head time to work oot best way forward.
He cleared failts and car went perfect for 10miles with knly one short 'ding' and a flash of trans box in neutral on the screen.

Due to low voltage I expect, new alternator, charge battery, clear faults and normal service should resume.... Thumbs Up Pete

The ECU you're talking about is the lighting ECU. In the drivers footwell behind the R/H panel as you say.
Usually causes strange indicator/lighting problems. Mine also caused radio/stereo problems when it decided to act up.
