Replacing ignition switch on a 2008 tdv8

I'm looking at replacing the ignition switch on my 08 tdv8,it's giving an intermittent fault, I've looked in the workshop manual and to get at the switch requires removing the dash top, instrument cluster and drivers side lower trim to get the piece of dash off that it's mounted on, i just wondered if anyone has experience of doing this and if there's a shortcut or easier way. Cheers.

Have you definitely identified the ignition lock as the problem?

What are the symptoms?

Pretty sure , put key in steering lock clicks off as it should then turn key to position one and no lights or any response on dash and car won't start , turn back to position 0 and then back to position 1 several times quite vigorously or wiggle the key up and down a few times and dash lights up and car will start , doesn't do it every time you start car maybe once out of 10 times , for me wiggling the key is the main indicator that the ignition switch has a dodgy contact!
