Left it unlocked last night...

...and the battery is dead today.

Damn and blast - I assume this is because it didn't go to sleep?

New battery after the old one dropped a cell in the cold snap a few weeks back.

Did you leave the keys in the ignition? Can't think of any other reason it would go flat as everything shuts down. Even if you leave the tailgate open and unlocked the tailgate lights go out after about 15 minutes. 2010 Disco XS TDV6, 2009 Freelander 2 GS

Interesting - I've read on other forums that if it's not locked it doesn't go to sleep properly and thus the battery drains.

Just like the others - have often left mine unlocked also - not had any battery problems Neutral

Shocked surprised how many of us leave our cars unlocked though, are we all just that forgetful? Whistle

Mine is unlocked in an alarmed garage with CCTV, so if they can get by the CCTV and alarm then they will get in the vehicle whether its locked or not

"The LR Assistance chap said its easy to kill the battery by unlocking and leaving the systems on, if the key is in the ignition it drains even quicker i.e. when cleaning it etc on your driveway."

I'll see how it goes overnight - have checked and the fans seem to work okay so I don't think it's the resitor module (yet...)

You're assuming the LR Assistance guy knew what he was talking about.

If the dealer/mech doesnt know what's causing the drain then they can just use this cop out. It may happen when the car is left unlocked, but it is not the "cause", nor should it be.

Damn.

Okay, collective brains, what else could be causing the battery to go flat?

(New battery about 4-6 weeks ago)

Rear interior lights will turn off themselves, I leave mine open too - never had an issue, you must have some other drain...... Land Rover Addict

Might pull the fuses on the radio system - again I've read else where that it can get into a strop and not turn off properly, worth a try.
