KEY PROBLEM :(

Afternoon chaps

Got a bit of a head scratcher for you....

Ive got a 2014 vogue with an issue involving the keys . Basically when i bought the car it only came with one key as i bought it second hand and the previous owner had lost one key.
I myself have now lost the only key i ever had for it so i had a key coder chap come out to my car and he programmed 2 new keys for me ....so far so good.
BUT and here is where you will see my dilema. He managed to get the ignition on by bypassing the system through his key coder. The gauges came on and he could lock and unlock the car using the new keys. I asked if he could start the car using the new keys and he said no . He plugged in his diagnostic computer and it said it had locked him out due to security reasons or something to that effect.

Now that he has left and his scanners etc have been removed , the key will click and flash the hazards when you press the unlock button but when you come to lock the doors it will click and flash the hazards but wont lock any doors.
The instrument cluster wont light up with the gauges but instead just lights up with the welcoming "Land rover" symbol and the date and mileage.
If you put your foot on the brake and press start it does nothing at all.

Im not sure if it has had the key module upgrade or not until i check with land rover on monday but on Topix it says it has had 2 software upgrades but wont let me see what they are ?

I presume and i wait to be corrected that it has had a module software upgrade and because the keys are coded to the module i will require a new module and keys as virgin keys cant be programmed to an upgraded module ?

Just looking for any advice on the above from any tech wizards on here

Thanks in advance guys Very Happy

Welcome,

Hope you didn't pay for the keys... Rolling Eyes

Think you will have to bite the bullet and get the dealer to sort it out, check with your house or car insurance, some include an amount for lost keys... Pete

You might get some luck if your car was subject to the lock recall.

You would have to get the car to the dealer - but a breakdown service might do that for you.

There was a recall that required all the keys to be re-programmed to the car - I bought an additional key & took along 3 when it went in for the work - all 3 came back working Thumbs Up

A grand Shocked

Worst case the guy who attempted to program the key has Censored something - in which case pursue him for the cost of replacement

Best case - your main dealer reprogram the keys for free as part of the recall

If that fails, I have a brand new, never programmed key for sale here for £75 and it may cost £50 for a dealer to program it.

Is it just me, or is there something a little suspicious in a first time poster asking a question of this nature?

(No offense to the OP if a genuine enquiry)

Cheers for clarifying that one Stan

Yes i am genuine and this is my 1st L405 , only owned it since october and it has been a lovely car without any faults up to now .

I have been reading through many many posts on different forums but this seems to be a new problem as it hasnt been mentioned before or at least i cant seem to find any information on it ?

I am going to give my main dealer a call tomorrow and pick his brains on the problem but failing being able to sort it myself i will have to send it into them.
Time is of the essence now as im emigrating to Australia on the 19th so i need to get it sorted asap as it will be going in a container and shipped to OZ mid July but i wont be here to fix any problems on it so need to get them sorted before i go.

Just as an aside - is it cheaper to buy an L405 here and ship it to Oz rather than buy one when out there?

And of course they drive on the "proper" side of the road Very Happy 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography

depends on how much you originally bought the car for, how much the same one is to buy in australia against how much it is worth over her but as well you need to remember you pay Australia GST & LCT @ 33%

For me its worth it as i got the car cheap and its highly spec'd up

Shipping costs are £1,400 from southampton - sydney (6weeks in transit)

then when you get it to the other side you need to get it registered and pay for rego i.e car tax, insurance

Just pulling this back to the key question the OP originally posed for e second (although the cost of freighting a car to Oz is fascinating Rolling with laughter ). I had a similar problem with my L322 got a key off Dan and programmed it with the GAP IIDTool in seconds. I don't know if this would work on an L405 but it might be worth asking DAN and asking GAP. Geoff
