Hi getting a few scuffs an scratches sorted at a local body shop including tail gate and rear wheel arches. Car being java black quite a few blemishes swirl marks and scratches around the car and the chap suggested that he could remove all of these whilst sorting out the body work.He wants to use a correction system called restore FX.Anyone any experience of this product ?All comments apptecistef been told car will look like new.Wants £400 for applying this product. My concerns are will it last, does it work, can i still apply wax ,polishers and sealants agfterwards, does it effect the car paint work in any way? Full fat 4.2 Sc

Sounds a bit expensive to me, there are no products they can put on the paintwork to make it stronger and shrug off scratches or swirl marks....

There are lots of products out there that claim this and that but none of them will beat the old fashioned way of polishing out the marks and using a good quality polish on the paint..

They can remove all the marks with a MOP (machine operated polisher) and proprietary products like G3 G7 anti swirl polish, hand finish, the list goes on, this would take a couple of hours to do the whole FF and about a tenner in products...

Just ask them how much it would cost to MOP the whole FF and then polish it yourself... Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Pete

Buy a machine polisher plus the kit for way less. It's one of the simplest and most satisfying jobs you can do. Thumbs Up

Pete, depending on the state of the swirls marks, takes way more than 2 hours, search an old thread I did on my old one.

Like Mr Tee says, DIY. Anything someone puts on the paint will only ever mask the damage. If you want it gone for good you need to machine polish the pain.

An example of how machine polishing removes swirls here. One half done, the other half as it came into me. (Customer's car)

You do know they have a speed switch.... Whistle I've done countless cars and never taken longer than 2 hours, I suppose if you haven't done many it will take longer...

This took about 2 hours including flatting, I didn't do the roof or boot though...

BEFORE

Flatted the whole car down with 2500 wet and dry....

Then out with the polisher, some G3, a wash and some Meguiars....

You should start off with something like meguiars ultimate compound to see if at gets rid of the swirls etc and if not work your way to a more agelessive cutting compound like farecla g10 or G3 so you don't do any damage that does need a pro to remove! Also perhaps a dual action polisher rather than a straight buffer as there is more room for error that way!! Once you get it to where you want it then a good quality polish and wax will protect it and make it shine.

You can get ceramic coatings to give some protection that supposed to last for years but whether it does or not remains to be seen. Some can be bought in the bay for about £50 or so!

Will give you a great sense of satisfaction doing it yourself and once you have the kit you can keep doing it!

Mostly what mzplcg said, although I just used what I had in, 2,500 wet and dry, wet... stay well away from panel edges and swage lines then I had some Farecla G3 rubbing compound, then "T" cut and finally Meguiars fine polishing compound and finally Meguiars polish.....

If you use a MOP stay well away from the edges and use water, makes a right mess, don't get the panel too hot by keeping the MOP still.. move it all the time... Get a nice soft foam pad on the MOP...

If you're not careful you will burn the paint or wear through it on edges, but you have to be brutal to do it on paint that is a few years old...

Have fun.... Thumbs Up Pete
