Glovebox wont open

Hi all.
2003 Vogue TD6 - the glove box will not open when I press the button. It is not locked and it stopped working suddenly - not gradually.
I assume there is going to be a problem with the cable, is it easy to get at? Will removing the upper dash panel give access?
Cheers. QUID FACIUM TIBI

I don't actually know, but the side panel just pops off, which is much much less work. I'd be seeing if I can access anything from there first....

This happened to me, you'll find that either the cable has popped out at the latch end or the latch has self destructed as had happened to me.

I looked at getting a new latch but the price was ridiculous for what it is so I found the parts scattered about the glovebox area and reassembled it using a bit of gaffer tape. It's been fine for a few months now.

If it has broken into a few bits just reassemble in what looks to be the logical order and try operating it with your hand, if it doesn't seem to work properly try assembling it in a different way and try again. It might sound like I'm trying to tell you how to suck eggs but it's not obvious how it goes together.

I had lost the small spring that goes into the latch so I just used a spring from a pen and it worked fine.. Thumbs Up

Good luck ______________________________

If it's anything like my 2008 glovebox, it's a total nightmare to open without the button working. Censored Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

If (when) you get it open and are trying to replace the spring you will probably find it is a nightmare of a fiddle to get it and the spring back into place.

When it gets to that stage may I suggest this http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic35305.html?highlight=spring

It is simply a matter of winding the spring onto the cable. Much easier than the original. John

Thanks for these, I have had the end cap off recently when wiring in a dash cam. I do have large hands, is it a bit of a sqeeze to get at the catch? I seem to be getting a lot of these niggly problems - luckily most of them are fixable but I seem to solve one thing and two more crop up.... QUID FACIUM TIBI
