There have been posts here of P38s made to look like L322s, and L322s made to look like L405s. Usually they haven't been very successful. Has anyone ever tried making an L322 look like a Classic? If done WELL, (and that's a big IF), the combo of the great Classic shape and the comfort & performance of the L322 would be pretty neat. Any interesting stories out there?

And why would you want to make n L322 look like a Classic in the first place? You'd be much better off taking a Classic and fitting a better engine...... Overfinch started off fitting Chevy 350's to classics many years ago, so why not improve on that and fit an LS motor? I see as they are really cheap on your side of the pond.... and if your thinking of a diesel ( and know you are ) have a gander at this thread, it was started by a member who is utterly brilliant

When you get to the end you'll see that I'm suddenly on to the OM606 engine... can be every bit as powerful as a Cummings BT6..... But can do this at less than half the weight

The BT6 is the weight of Mount Rushmore (1100 lbs / 498.9516 KG) and the OM606 super feather weight (485lb 0.2722560oz / 220 KG)
This means that you can build a Classic that has 500 Hp and 700Nm / 516.2935ft-lb, and not weigh in the same as the CN Tower  Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

No intention of actually building one! I well aware of the size difference (especially when swapping parking spots between the FFRR and my D1 - pretty close, dimension-wise to an RRC). I saw a video a while back of a "big bug". A man had taken an accident damage Dodge RAM pickup and build himself a 1960s style VW Bug on it. He had a metal fabrication business and borrowed a real bug, scanned it part by part and basically turned out the parts at 150%. Inside it was regular RAM, complete with engine, auto-transmission, etc.) Basically it looked like a 'regular bug' as seen from the perspective of a five year old. It would be fun for someone to try something similar with an RRC and they seemed to have aged well from a style point of view.

I'm not going to be the one to build one! The engine options mentioned for a (real) RRC sound really attractive.

All I can think, if at all possible, would be to combine a RRC with a Sport or Disco, as they have a chassis and would be more suitable for this sort of application.....

I suppose that if you fit a vertically slatted grill to a ffrr, and you might be able to do something with the lights... but that would be about as far as you could go.... So in my opinion it would be far better to up grade a classic to the performance level of a ffrr than to try and retro fit Classic body mods on an ffrr

But to be honest there is so much integrated electronics in a modern car, you'd need very big pockets or great patients to pull it off.... That's why I'm favouring totally ECU free upgrade... might not be as efficient, or reliable, but when it all goes wrong, it wont require a computer genius and a whole box full of sensors to fix  Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Still you could be the first facelift ffrr owner to do a down grade.... you wouldn't have any bother finding cheap parts  Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!
