DREADED FBH

hi folks

i have a error with my FBH, normally in previous years it has worked no problem at this time of year although it doesent get that much use; i have just tried it for the first time at this end of the year but it wont cut in, i only have the ability to set it on the screen and not the fob;

the sceen sets ok as normal and the light comes on then powers off after 2 mins; it then comes on and start flashing and i can hear the burner start to run low speed under the wheel arch but after about one minute or a little more it stops;

normally i can hear the clicking from the rear but i cant hear that ; i have tried several times but to no avail; Censored

i did have a similar issue earlier in the year but that was down to not being cold enough but the gauge in the car is showing plus 3 C so i believe that should be cold enough . ??

I recal it has to be below 5 c OR is it below Minus 5 ? which seems a bit low ?

HI graeme

thanks for that, i am looking at that the ticking that should be heard at the back which is the fuel pump, which i am not hearing, i assume is independent to the burner ? is so; where is it located, ? in the boot? i did used to hear this ticking when the pump fbh was starting up; but at the moment, it is just running for around 2 mins on low speed then just stops, so i assume it is waiting for the burner to cut in which it obviously is not;

i cant take it to a dealership here as they will just say it needs replacing and thats it !! Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation Censored Censored

hi folks

i am in talks with frenchmike on the rover forum regarding testing the PCB for the FBH;

he has suggested i remove it and send it to him to test; however he says to get it out, i have to remove the big air intake pipe ? but this seems to be linked to a little aluminium finned radiator type of thing ? ( crap description i know ); with two pipes connected to it? is this the PCB? Or am i in the wrong place, ? and if it is, i asssume the car cannot be driven with these pipes removed ?

ah ok; thanks , i did wonder, but will see how awkward it is to get at the burner, however i wonder if it is the PCB ? as what with having no ticking coming from the back would i think point to the fuel pump not working Question Whistle but i have no idea of coarse, incidently, is that pump in the boot or under the car in some horrible hard to get to place?

The fuel pump for the FBH is located in one of the most inaccessible Wink places on the car, behind the upper wishbone of the RHR suspension. One can just about get a hand or finger to it to test if it is running/ticking. If you are really in the mood you can (CAREFULLY!) drop the subframe @ 2in on that side for better access.

To get the FBH out suggest removing the LHF wheelarch liner, the battery and battery tray, then all becomes obvious from there. If you have some pipe clamps this may save having to drain down all the coolant .

OK. well i will hav a look about popping the wheel arch cover off etc, i expect, looking at the posts, it is probably the PCB at fault, so hopefully it all comes out wwithout too much trouble

hi folks, ok i have decided i would rather have the FBH up and running than not, even if it does not get a lot of use;

it would be helpful if anyone had any tips that may assist the removal of both the wheel arch cover and the burner itself, in order to remove the PCB;

when i say tip's; i mean constructive one' of coarse

You might find this file in Wiki very useful. Reading it I note that the fuel pump doesn't start running until 30 seconds into the start up sequence. I'm guessing if the glow plug has failed and the system fails to detect a flame then the fuel pump will be shut off.

The OBDII tool can also run a diagnostic on the FBH if you have access to one. Good luck Thumbs Up

i will have a look and see thanks;

i dont as yet have the tool but i will get one i think, i am going to visit someone soon who has one but dont know if they can be used to test any car<? I Thought they were set to the VIN number ??
