After meeting with Nick today, I've just read this with great interest.
Little did I know that I actually own a Limited Edition Autobiography, one of only 125 ever made.
Very happy indeed Very Happy

Great read and remember that new ones used to depreciate by a grand a month prob more now so 12k a year buys a lot of repairs Smile

Absolutely gutted to give the latest update to my journey - last night whilst parked in a floodlit hotel carpark in Central London it was broken into. Both the tailgate glass and the passenger side window smashed in - and the only thing taken was my bag in the boot which had my gym kit in it. Nothing but a pair of worn trainers and a few t-shirts. No idea why they smashed both windows, probably frustration that there wasn't anything good in the car. Police been and there is CCTV in the car park so thats a start, insurance coming out tonight to fix the windows. Have just put down a glass claim rather than a theft claim as there isn't much value in anything which was taken. Glass everywhere though- I think I am going to be picking it out for weeks.

Nick, when they replace Tim see if you can get some supaglass fitted. It is a thing film on the inside and is smash resistant.

Mine has it and you can't tell except for the little sticker.

Thanks guys - new side window just fitted and new rear window being done tomorrow.

It was the Hilton in Ealing - National Windscreen guy said wasn't the first time he'd done one here- but I'm sure you can say that about most hotel car parks to be fair. Current Fleet:-

So things been a bit quiet recently other than 2 new windows but it has been steadily pounding up and down the M4 between Ealing and the farm each week.

On Friday this milestone

5.5.17 - 180,000 miles

and then the next day it went for its MOT and service

6.5.17 - 180105miles MOT passed - 2 advisories - corrosion on rear brake pipes and a minor oil leak.

During the service they also found the drivers side tie rod end needs replacing, the rear brake shoes are low and traced the oil leak to the oil separator connecting hose (LLH000110) which looked like it had been nibbled by a mouse - very strange marks on it and not perished like the upper breather ones go like. Its in next weekend to have all that done along with the rear brake pipes. Hopefully then it won't smell hot and oily when it gets to each end of the M4!

My summer job is the rear wheel arches - which given that 6 months of the year its covered in mud is understandable and my mechanic pointed out that at next years MOT its likely to be over 200k.

Who needs a new one - well at the moment its hard to justify as I still love this one! I think I'll just keep running it and adding to the new car money pot until the point I have to replace it. Current Fleet:-

August 2017 - So this weekends job was to replace the secondary fuel sender unit - last year I replaced the main fuel pump unit, but after spending a couple of weeks at the flat in Wimbledon without any runs home to Wales, early last Saturday morning I got into the car to head home and noticed the fuel gauge was low.I popped into the petrol station and it only took £45! Odd - and thinking about it I had done a couple of splash and dashes for £30 each recently as hadn't needed a full tank and was usually in a hurry to go somewhere - not thinking about the fact I had already done it! So I interrogated Test Case 6 on the instrument panel and sure enough one of the readings was 0 - However as I then carried on down the M4 noticed the gauge dropped to empty and then despite topping the tank up a couple of times over the last week the gauge has never moved off empty. The new fuel pump unit from last year had come with a new secondary sender unit which I hadn't fitted at the time so decided I would at least fit that and see if it cured the problem.
I set to work yesterday afternoon and after a bit of faffing about got the secondary sender unit installed but managed in the process to snap one of the main feed pipes on the top of the main pump housing when trying to remove the pipes to connect the sender unit. I glued it and left it overnight to come back and fit this morning but had a doubt overnight about what would happen if it broke off again when the car was running (especially as thinking about it, I'm sure petrol will melt superglue). Decided to abandon that idea, leave the Range had home and take the wife's Shogun to London for the week whilst I ordered a new pump unit. Then lightbulb moment - I still had the old pump housing unit from last year. Swapped the pump out of the new broken unit into the original unit unit and refitted - fired up and all running well and the fuel gauge is working. Of course, it could have been the sender unit in the main unit that had packed up -but at least for now both senders have been replaced and are working and Test 6 shows a similar reading in both parts of the tank so for now its all working!

Next stop is another oil service in about 3 weeks time. Current Fleet:-

Each time mine lets me down I get grumpy and say "that's it, I'm done....it's going....bloody LR product letting me down again"...that's sadly the mood I am in now as I take a coffee break, switch on ebay, fill my watch list with Audi A6 Allroads, BMX X5's and Toyota Landcruisers...all different but all cars I really like for different reasons...and none of which stack up as a winner against my RR.

Reading your story makes me realise that I will once again make excuses to mates, myself and the wife for another problem with "that bloody car"...

So I'll remove the Audi's etc from the watch list, pull up my big boy pants, and remember that I'm a range rover owner and we just get on with it.

(read this with the Hovis advert music playing, it'll bring a tear.... Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter ) Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

You know what, I think that sums it up perfectly. I do get cross when mine breaks down, but I have never once ever, not looked forward to that 500 mile round trip each week - and thats important when you have to drag yourself away from the family on a Sunday afternoon to head away for work for the week. Yes, mine is getting on a bit and the 02-05 front is now definitely looking dated but love it, it still puts a smile on my face and still get plenty of envious comments and admiring glances. I gave one of my clients a lift in it the other day and he said - I've always loved these, and this looks great - I pointed out that it nearly had 190,000 miles on the clock and his face nearly hit the floor.

I don't see me ever driving anything other than a Range Rover, but there is a caution to the tale - with the early ones going for less than £5k people are getting suckered into a money pit. I look after mine and know everything which has been done to it but you only have to read the forums of people joining now having bought an early car with an unknown history with problem lists as long as your arm - to repair properly at this stage far out weighs the value of the car. I still tell everyone to approach with care, but as long as you know what you are getting into and a large repair bill (whilst not enjoyable) can be weathered, enjoy the journey.
