The outcome was moisture in the turbo hose that had frozen.

The mechanic has no idea of the cause or whether it will happen again - I just got a gallic shrug and was told that the air is dry today.

The other bits I was already prepared for from previous experience - delivering the car back equates to - we're really busy today, so you will have to collect it - LR Assist provided me with a taxi. Also, any work done once they get it back to their garage, you have to pay for - LR Assist only cover roadside - so I got a bill for 42 EUR for defrosting & removing the water - which was actually less than I was expecting.

The car drove back up the mountain fine - so we'll see if it starts OK in the morning, though the forecast is warmer for the next few days at least......

Good news Alister. As there is no snow and getting warmer perhaps go for a nice drive and warm the poor thing up nicely. Mr. Green

The starting but no revving sounded like the MAF sensors next to airbox may have frozen if it happens again get a hairdryer on them! Seems odd that all air could be blocked off by freezing?

I don't think so - but will ask them. Last time I had a problem, the RAC wouldn't and reading the cover, LR assist appears to be the same. They will pay for roadside assistance and recovery to an approved garage. If said garage can't fix within a reasonable time (4 hours) then they will pay for onward transport or accommodation etc. However, there is no mention of who pays for work at the garage.

I'm fairly sure it's the same in the UK - LR Assist will get you to a dealer, but after that, you pay for any work.

I guess the difference between LR Assist & RAC is that there is also a warranty element, but not sure that this would constitute a warranty claim.....

Agree - most likely some sort of sensor but I'm really none the wiser

Well, after 3 successful early morning starts, I guess I'll have to put it down to experience. Whatever was frozen hasn't reoccured.

It even snowed this weekend and it was -15 C when I left at 4am this morning, though I did clear the bulk of the snow off it last night -

I was glad of the winter tyres on the descent Thumbs Up

as for you problem, can you not put a bit of cardboard in front of the air intake, like we used to do in the old days to warm up the radiator quicker...... Mr. Green Wink

Alistair, I once parked my car next to the vent from the spa at the hotel in a ski resort, fortunately it was the rear of the car but it built up a thick layer of ice, just a thought as to where the warm moist air might have come from. letters not necessarily in the right order

When it froze, it was back to a wall facing into an open car park, after that, I parked on the other side of the car park, for no other reason than it was different from where I had the problem......
