Frozen air intake !

I'm skiing at the moment and it was -13 this morning.

I tried to start the car & every time, it fired, then immediately shut down. I need to do an airport run tomorrow, so called LR assist who dispatched a local guy who was with me in under an hour.

I kind of expected it to be frozen diesel, but couldn't figure out why the car fired up each time - and I had tried probably 15 times.

The guy reckoned it was something on the air side - was able to disconnect a few pipes & start the engine - so I guess he was right.

He's now taken it away to dismantle & figure out what's frozen - all rather embarrassing as every other car seems to be perfectly fine.

I'm waiting for a call back from LR assist to see what they figure out.....

I hope they sort your problem but Land Rovers are no longer built to withstand this sort of treatment, they should be left in a heated garage unused otherwise you'll just get these sorts of issues all the time and it get's frustrating. Thumbs Up

I don't have a good history with ski resorts Big Cry

Turbo/intercooler hoses one year as I was climbing the mountain - so I was trying to remove the hoses in an underground garage in sub-zero tempeatures.

Another time I spung a coolant leak that required the car to be taken away in a similar fashion so that they could figure out the source - similar story, I limped into the resort & was recovered the next day.

I have another 4 weeks here though, so keen to understand what caused it. I've an airport run tomorrow - and I am flying home Mon-Thur for the next 3 weeks - so leaving the resort at 4am on Monday - so the car had better start !

Just out of interest, did you run the FBH before attempting to start. In fact would the FBH work at all given the frozen pipe possibility? Shocked

I don't have a FBH - at least not an independently controllable one.

Even Park Heat is disabled as standard on the L405 - though apparently I can enable it with an IID tool - I wish I hadn't given mine away now when sold the L322.......

I think it's the air intake that was problematic - somewhere between the air filter & the engine - not sure where the FBH gets it's air from ?

The mechanic took the cover off the filter, but it still wouldn't go - but disconnected closer to the engine & it started but wouldn't rev.

Can't remember what I typed but apologies as it obviously was inappropriate, no offense meant.

Would be interesting to know the outcome as two of my reasons for having a FF is skiing (both meanings)
I had frozen diesel once, the annoying thing was it had to be reset through OBD rather than odentifying the problem had been cured and resetting itself. I also had the problem with the door mirrors this year.
I do wonder if JLR do their testing in extreme locations and think if it is good enough for that it will be fine for lesser areas. Ski resorts being just above and below freezing bring their own hazards. letters not necessarily in the right order

It might be worth bearing in mind that it is not usually the diesel that freezes but the water/moisture content within the diesel.
Keeping the filter clean helps and clearing any water from the water traps which is where the blockage usually occurs. G reg 2.5VM Vogue Portofino red 1991- 1999
