iPhone integration

In the middle of installing a BT module and connecting up my iPhone. Used navcoder for get BT unit to pair and that bit all works nicely as do all the steering wheel buttons etc. Problem I've hit is the mic. The overhead mic has three wires yellow, thin black and thicker black. I need to trace them back to the rear of the car (using bits of old loom to save ripping the car apart) but am having no luck. Anyone done this already and know where I can pick up these three wires? Its the last bit to do and sods law has just kicked in. "On first name terms with my local Dealer......now."

The wires basically run from the mike to the ULF. If you have the voice control module they do make a quick stop there first.

Can you not find the connector overhead or what is the exact problem? I assume you re-pinned the big 54-pin connector at the ULF? IIRC the mike pins are 1, 19, and 21 in the 54 pin connector.

I have a re-pinned loom (54pin plug and big white plug) from Adam at l322.com into the bmw ulf. All the phone functions for the ulf are working and integrating with the car (buttons etc). The only bit of the re-pinned loom I have yet to connect up is the mic. I tried tracing the wires back to the original 54pin plug but none of the colours seemed to match up...

If the wires go to the voice module first I will have another look as so far I have been looking for them at the old 54pin plug end of the loom. I'm intending to tap into the existing loom rather than run the new one through the car hopefully saving me some hassle. "On first name terms with my local Dealer......now."

@SteveMFr - I seem to recall you mentioned the pinout from l322.com had a mistake somewhere - I'm getting a couple of strange things with the BT iphone integration (doesn't hang up the call from the RR only the phone, causes the central screen to reboot occasionally etc.) and am wondering if this is the cause. Do you remember what the pinout mistake was? "On first name terms with my local Dealer......now."

I've looked and I can't find my notes... But I believe the probs were related to cradle/mic (IIRC, amongst other things, the correction on L322.com where the mic wires are switched is incorrect).

The hang up prob you describe sounds more like a general BT prob, tho. What gen is your ULF again (or did you mention it)?

The screen re-boot would worry me. What does that look like?

Its a Gen13 ULF

the reboot has happened before when not using the BT - the Nav disc got a bit confused (its a Mk4)

I dont have the cradle connected fully yet and do the pairing via navcoder and iBus as I never got round to sorting out a pairing button. "On first name terms with my local Dealer......now."

iPHone 4 and Gen 13 ULF should work fine, never had a problem with mine. Thumbs Up As for a pairing button its just two wires that need a momentry contact switch so you could wire up a door bell button if you wish Laughing Certainly a very long winded way hooking up Navcoder Confused

I will try and dig out my own "home made" pinout wiring chart if it helps?

AJAY - the pinouts for the pairing button would be a great help so yes please.

The Mic is all working find - dialling, speech, sound, answering all work great - hanging up doesn't which is very strange.

Not tried a different phone but have some so will do.

Pairing button would make this a lot easier Smile "On first name terms with my local Dealer......now."

Oh! Its been a while since I last looked at my pinning chart and notes, time to get my head around the wiring again Embarassed

To help me - Do you intend fitting a pairing button in the rear by the ULF or up front under the centre arm rest?

Much appreciate the help Thumbs Up "On first name terms with my local Dealer......now."

Ok well up front there are only four wires used in the 18 pin connector and should be as follows:

Pin 1 - Red - Supply Voltage
Pin 2 - Brown - Ground
Pin 6 - Green -
Pin 14 - White -Pairing

Now because I changed the RR phone cradle to the BMW Eject Box which has the built in pairing button mine worked fine without further investigation. From what I can remember it is the white wire (pin 14) thats the one that needs to be used for pairing either by "touching" with pin 6 or Pin 2. I would suggest testing with pin 6 first.

Turn off your ignition and bridge Pins 14 & 6 temporarily, then turn on ignition to position 1, count to 3 and disconnect your bridging wire - If the monitor displays "Bluetooth Pairing" you're sorted, if not then it has to be pin 14 and 2 Wink You just repeat the process, DEFINATELY NOT PIN 1 Shocked
