The split may have already existed and therefore may have been detected with enough scrutiny but treat the event like a flat tyre - inconvenient at the time but will soon be forgotten once fixed.

You are not alone. My 2011 packed up when I had it second hand in 2015 and it turned out to be the DPF in the exhaust. The dealer should help you and you will be covered under consumer law for a fix, I believe you can even reject the car if it gets tricky.

Honestly, not worth the paperwork to claim......it's easy job and will help you get to know how the thing works!!

The hose is about 40-50 quids and it's a 1 screwdriver operation.

That shows how to get it off, you can patch it up like that for the cost of a roll of tape from Halfords, and this will keep you going until your dealer can get one in.

It's a common fault, they will go at some point if you sort them now then they should be fine for another 5-10 years. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I had the same experience but the car WILL put a smile on your face and you WILL NOT want to have a Full Fat Range Rover-less drive at home despite this early setback!

Stick with it, the winter is coming and you will be encapsulated in warmth and serenity no matter what mother nature throws at you, even in the middle of summer.

If you can't/won't wait to get new hoses, then duct-tape can be used to seal up the leak temporarily.

As I'm not one to tinker with cars I wasn't expecting to be fixing my new one with tape ! I shall pop down to Halfords today and pick up some magic tape.

The Harris pipe repair tape works perfectly in 3 layers, 1st a layer of reinforcing tape, then some self amalgamating tape and another layer of reinforcing tape.

Will last a good few miles and resist full boost. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Halfords don't do the Harris tape any more according to the chap in there (and their website) so I used the silicone fixxit tape.

Took me 15 minutes to remove the hose, seal it and put it back so I was quite happy with my work. On the short drive I took later on there was no restricted performance, so that is an improvement.

Still looks to me like there's some smoke on kick-down and an annoying whistle has developed on acceleration, although if I take my foot off the gas and then back on it seems to disappear. I'm beginning to think there's something more seriously wrong with the car, or perhaps my repair isn't holding although it looks to be solid enough.

Got a long-ish trip tomorrow that I can't miss or be late for so I'm fretting somewhat.

PS. Colour is actually Ipanema Sand, not sure where I got Atacama from, but I guess a beach is different sand from a desert.

you might get a bit of smoke for a while as it clears out from the soot after the leak. Probably whistling is also related. wait until you have the new hoses attached to see if the symptoms go away.

and avoid properly booting it until you have a new hose on, if you pop the tape off you will be back to square one. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
