Anyone know whether the rear seat heaters use the same parts? 1995 4.6 v8, green/tan (long gone)
2005 4.8iS X5, blue/black
2011 4.4 tdv8, black/black (gone)

This art is designed to flex when the seat back is moved. Clearly, over time the plastic starts getting brittle - hence it cracks & breaks apart.

I've now replaced the part, having taken a chance and ordered it from a Land Rover Dealer. It now works perfectly (it's an expensive part & a royal pain to lift the seat out as the seat weighs a tonne). Owing tot he air-bag, I disconnected the battery too (& allowed it to stand 20+mins before disconnecting).

That said, the seat does not *need* to be removed - but it is definitely easier to do if the seat is out of the car.

I'd accidentally cut my hand whilst doing the job (you can imagine the language ) so was bleeding everywhere - consequently, I didn't take many pictures but what I did take - are hopefully good enough:

Heated seat repaired

Hi all.

After looking through this feed I removed my seat back heat unit. I noticed there was quite a lot of cracking at one end. I decided to try a repair. So mixed some epoxy resin and covered all cracks. When dry I applied some good quality tape for good measure.
I re fitted the unit and to my amazement it worked!!
I must have caught it early enough before any long-term damage was done. Thanks to all.

I had similar experience. It lasted a few months before failing completely. Might be worth keeping an eye out for replacement and grabbing a bargain before you need one.

Russian Peltier unit fitted and Working

Hi All,
following the failure of my drivers heated seat, I discovered this and many other threads on the subject.
Firstly thanks to all the previous contributors for the help and advice.

Anyway, when I removed my seat back panel (seat removal not necessary as already stated by others).
I found the ducting badly spit and cracked, this I repaired / patched up using a hot glue gun.
I refitted the unit just to try it but still no fan or heat.
Resolving that the Peltier had gone west and being too tight to pay £250 for a new complete unit, I decided to give the Russian Ebay Peltier supplier a go.
My part no. matched one on his list so I thought I'd risk ordering one.

Others had commented that the unit supplied was slightly bigger than the original one.
I can confirm that it is by about 2-3mm in width.
After scratching my head for a bit and avoiding the temptation to try and squash it in, I thought about plastic surgery on the housing.
By this I mean cutting away the sides where foul with the sides of the new Peltier.
You need to cut away the sides on both halves of the Peltier housing.
Hopefully my pictures will make it clear?
As the Peltier is wrapped in a sponge like material I figured it wouldn't leak out to much if at all.
So I set to with a Stanley knife and a Dremel and cut away the sides to allow the fitment of the new Peltier.

So having fitted it into the case (minus the sides) I then sealed the gaps with the trusty hot glue gun.
Spliced in the wires having marked them up first to make sure that they were connected correctly.
The unit was reassembled and fitted back into the seat.
I'm pleased to say that I now have a fully working heated seat.
I haven't tried cooling as it's cold outside.

I really hope this helps others.
I've also recently replaced my Sat Nav antenna and reversing camera (both with generic Ebay replacements about £10 each.

I don't know what the difference is in the 2009 upgrade is is I would imagine it's very similar to mine at 2007.
I followed the guide posted earlier in this thread.

Brilliant thanks for everyone who has contributed just got my heated/cooled seat working on my facelift. Tips for getting the seat back off, the back pulls down once you have squeezed the bottom side tabs out over the metal pole. This is quite tricky I just used a long screwdriver from the bottom by the centre console. I nearly removed the seats after seeing Sam's Motors and Machines video yesterday, glad I didn't. I couldn't get the heater out without a bit more work, I just gaffer taped the 2" split works perfectly.

Fitting the seat back was easier. 2009 TDV8 3.6
