Rubbish, Range Rovers have always suffered collosal depreciation in the first 12 months - apart from when a new model has been launched. Exactly the same used to happen with the Classic, P38, the L322, and now the L405 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

To say this new shape is about 5 years old now, I think used dealer prices have held pretty strong. The first vogue models rolling off the production line will have retailed starting around the £75k mark, give or take a few grand and options etc. There hasn't been many at all for sale by Land Rover for under £40k yet, So they are now 5 years old and still retailing for over 50% of the new price.

Doesn't depreciation work on percentage terms ie, the more you have in a car the more you have to loose?

If you buy a new car for £10,000 and it looses 25% in the first year then you've lost £2.5k, but then again if you spend £100,000 your 25% then becomes £25k.

New cars always depreciate more within the first year.

You could buy a new 405 then take it back 2 days later and I'll bet you'll still loose 15 - 20%

Exactly - I could give you specific examples of that - you are 100% correct

It's simple if purchasers can't afford the depreciation - don't go out and buy a new £100k motor, and expect to lose only a few £k.

This is fact if you sell to a main agent after 12 months and 12k miles expect to lose around 30% minimum. Years 2 and 3 the depreciation tails off dramatically. I.e. It will still be high depreciation but it won't be 30% in my experience around 5 to 10% 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

About time.... they need to protect their own business and investment and that of their customers..... I have badgered them for years, I don’t understand why has it taken so long to wake up? Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. Emissions Analytics worked with........etc etc

I'm glad you said that, as it leads me on to another question which I'd like opinions on..... I have on order a 2018MY FFRR 5.0 SC Autobiography, Black with Ivory Leather. This is due for delivery in March 2018.

I'm not entirely sure yet whether to keep it, or buy something else - If I have it transported from the main dealers showroom to my home, taking into account the 6 month waiting list, do you think I would get the full retail price back for it?

I think it would depend on the demand for the car and the price you have paid for it.
If the order books are full and someone wants the car you will sell it at a premium if theres no demand you'll take a kicking. 2020 Porsche Panamera Turbo Hybrid (V FAST)

^^ exactly that^^

I remember when Ford released the new focus rs500.

People were pre-ordering them then selling the orders for a profit.

There was only ever going to be 500 made so if you didn't get your order in quick what alternative do you have besides paying a premium for a pre-order?

If it's standard is car that's readily available, then that's when you will loose money.

Expect a big loss if that was to happen. The 2018 car is a face-lift it's not a new car so even if there is a waiting list who would buy it for the same price on a private sale basis when Land Rover CR treat you very differently depending if you buy from the manufacturer or even used from a dealer. 2016 SDV8 Autobiography
And several others previously.

Aja500 - I have 2018 on order too, scheduled for March delivery.

However the contract I have with the dealer contains a clause that I can’t sell it within 180 days of delivery....not sure what the penalty is, as I’ve no intention of selling, but might be worth looking at the paperwork you signed...

Why is that?

It's your car, surely you can do what you like with it?

Thanks Fat Wolfie - I didn't know that!

I certainly don't intend to sell it but I know what I'm like with cars. I've just sold a brand new Bentley Mulsanne Speed after 12 months and recently bought a used Rolls Royce Phantom which I returned after 3 days.
