update
Decided to tackle the steering column this morning, stripped casing away exposing the threaded bar and plastic nut.
The plastic nut I bought from Uli is not needed, the issue is the spindle from the motor to the threaded bar.
I had done some investigating on a replacement metal spindle, Uli gave me a company name of Brit-car that supplies a genuine Land Rover part- press metal spindle dimension - 175mm long and 15mm square, unfortunately this is no longer available or the correct size.
This is a fair chunk of metal and as the threaded bar is only 9.5mm , this is not going to work.
I removed threaded bar as if your going to replace plastic nut then pulled the press metal bar out, hoping i could take some dimensions, this was not possible as the pressed metal had snapped off at the threaded bar, when I pull the rest from the motor you could see the the strands of metal that had been pressed had unfurled .
The fix
you need - 4.7 mm dia bar [I used stainless] @ 110mm long, 15mm on each end needs to be squared off to 3.8mm to fit in each end of the In/out motor and the threaded bar.
replace the threaded bar and plastic nut grease up, put steering column shroud back, and turn key and bingo all back working 1.5 hrs later, well chuffed.
Any one needing a plastic nut, I have one , Uli discounted mine for club member @ £42, I'll do the same £35.
Hope this helps solve the In / out steering issues if it's not the Plastic nut.
