Is there any lubrication that can be applied to folding mirrors. Mine judder as they fold which can’t really be good. It seems a bit unnecessary to fold them on every lock cycle, but given that they do it seems sensible that there would be some form of servicing available for them...? 2010 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE

You can turn the folding feature off with an IID tool sir

A dealer technician said to me that inside the swivel mechanism there is a ball with grease around it. As there is normally only contact with part of its circumference during normal operation the grease gets rubbed off that part. He said the thing to do was to push the mirror forwards so that it 'collected' some grease from the bit of the ball that was normally not touched. Perhaps a more knowledgeable person could confirm before you try. Only Range Rovers since 1988

It certainly looks like it just needs some lubrication. Passenger mirror is the worse. Neither are bad, I'd just prefer to sort it before something breaks.

I run my mirrors fully up and down and from side to side occasionally to ensure that the motors still operate when required. In the past I have found that if the mirrors are set in the same position for a long time they don't work presumably due to the motors having sized.

Thanks nicedayforit. Not sure that will help with the folding mechanism though! That gets exercised every time I lock it.

I had this problem, followed the advice given and now lubricate every six months. Problem gone.

So, is it just the plastics rubbing that causes the problem? Does it have to be CorrosionX or will something like silicone grease do? Nice to know I don't have to dismantle it! 2010 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE

I guess it could be any heavy oil lubricant, but this one does not wash out and works well on the deployable side step joints also. There’s an alloy grove visible when u push the mirror forward, I lube this also.

kooky_guy, after one or two car washes i use dry PTFE spray lubricant.
