2011 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Galway Green

Thanks Gyre8 -- we have very different vehicles though!

I have to admit I am slightly concerned, especially now I've done the battery replacement routine with my GAP tool, I guess only time will tell, unless the good folk here can be definitive about how much of a numpty I've been

Mike, i recall parts man saying its a 2year warranty...this was an emergency 'must have' purchase and of course i would have gone cheaper if i had the time..

Bushy chances are it will work fine for a while. But it doesn't meet the 2011 spec, earlier cars had issues with batteries running out and drain from normal sources like interior lights is strong. Errant drains that can crop up add to the battery work-out.

Battery issues (that you may not have for a while) create havoc with all kinds of systems and many stories can be found on this forum.

To cure those issues, your 2011 has an advanced alternator and charging system which the earlier cars didn't have. I guess the AGM was part of that whole electrical upgrade.

If Halfords offered you that battery and said it was ok then you can go back and say it doesn't meet LR spec, your car needs AGM. I'd do that sooner than later.

If it was more your selection then up to you, you'll good performance for a while. Two winters from now, when you've left your door open for a bit long, you'll see your first real test of the non-AGM battery.

if it were me, I'd try to get it changed if you can.

It appears that setting the battery to a new battery causes battery management to not pussy-foot around with light charging that it considers necessary with an old battery to avoid boiling. The corollary is that if the battery, especially an AGM, is recorded as a new battery on a regular basis then the battery will last a lot longer.

A Varta 019 AGM that I fitted to my then 3.0 D4 (now owned by my son) lasted only 3 years, requiring more and more use of a battery charger even though frequent long drives occurred, in similar fashion to the original battery which also only lasted 3 years. The battery was replaced with another Varta 019 AGM which mechanically failed around 3 months later. The earlier Varta, which had been put to use elsewhere with solar panels attached, was refitted to the D4 while waiting for a replacement of the failed one as none were in the country and the next shipment was a while off. The D4 was again informed of the new battery as a charger had been required daily for the mechanically-failed one and now, many months later including through winter the temporarily refitted battery has performed perfectly. The new replacement waits patiently to be used, with an occasional top-up with a charger.
