let the wife down today

the range refused to start today, i left for work in my van and 2 hours later got a phone call from the ball and chain, that the stupid car wont start, when she puts the key in to start the car the steering column clicks repeatedly like a relay or something, so i talked her through how to check the battery voltage with a multimeter and its apparantly 12.73v and the battery is only 2 months old, anybody any ideas so i dont get an earfull when i get home, it was my idea to buy the range, she wanted an s-max, any help appreciated 2002 td6 vogue, 06 supercharged facelift

Try the spare key - advice not based on experience or knowledge, but worth ruling the key out.

Had something similar when i first got my TD6 turned out to be a faulty injector. Could be worth a check.

Darren,

Check your battery amp hours, I think it should be 110AH (amp/hour), I recently purchased a battery for mine, a lot of the independent motor factors list the RR as having a 90Ah battery fitted which as far as I remember is incorrect.

In fact a lot of factors told me that 90 a/h would do anyway, maybe so in perfect conditions, but what about in the middle of winter with every heater running.

Just a thought.

Hope this helps,

Stephen

I had a similar fault in a BMW E38 (7 Series). It turned out to be the transponder from the key, or rather the unit in the steering column which receives the code from the transponder.

You probably need to attach an OBD2 reader to get a fault code, better than guesses and replacing more components based on guesswork.

If not the transponder system it's probably the switch in the gearbox which recognises that the car is in park. Try shifting the gearstick a few times, you could also try it in neutral.

Basically if you're getting nothing, it's probably something which immobilises the car, i.e. transponder system or gearstick. Particularly since you have a TD6, if it was a V8 then it wouldn't even try to crank if you were low on battery, but since the TD6 doesn't have the auto ignition, I would assume it would try to crank if it was just low on battery. Range Rover-less at the moment - Pining!

Yes , pull leather gaiter of the gear selector up and off the suround and them pull he gear leaver sharply up and off, you can now see the selector mechanism and on the right by the leaver in park is a release trigger for such times .
Hope that makes sense .
If you go to Powerfull' web site their is a video of removeing the gear leaver on the bit for buying a new trim surround . 2008 MY Supercharged
