obd reader [again]

what actually can a bog standard obd2 unit do?...there are bluetooth and usb/cable types and as far as i can see they read codes and will only reset the engine malfunction light...
surely someone must have a copy of the landrover software that does the whole caboodle or is there aftermarket software that does that...
one reason for asking is that i need some light errors switching off and dont want to keep buying resistors to achieve this, another reason is that it would be nice to turn the nav on the go option amongst others.. ... - .- -.

If its possible to use with an OBD2 then it would be gold dust! Thumbs Up

To do anything clever you need the Land Rover system (IDS), or to be cleverer the Black Box Solutions or Autologic diagnostic kit.

Not cheap, but powerful. An OBD reader does the bare minimum as you've said - read basic faults and clear EMS warning light.

Navcoder allows you to change settings in the light module. Google it. I did a writeup on obd readers, it was quite comprehensive - as already suggested try search.

There is bmw software that allows a small amount of coding of modules Google pasoft and carsoft i think.

Daveo has also made good progress with some software that is nearly as full featured as testbook, but was very complicated to setup.

Even the most basic sw should read and clear the MIL. I use a hot version of Digimoto I torrented as it gives sensor readings too, but it's still basic.

At the end of the day an OBD reader is only ever going to reset your MIL and tell you why it came on etc. Still very much worth it, I've certainly got my monies worth.

I know the "Rover All-comms" software is nearing completion, this will be able to clear faults from all the vehicle systems. Although currently I'm unsure whether this will work so well for the later years.

@martin. you'd think that someone somewhere would have copied the official landrover software and let us mere mortals have access to it...BBS units do the lot but at £1k its to expensive for the average bloke, maybe they could produce software only products at a cheaper price..

@dan..i thought that navcoder only worked on the pre-2005 [facelift] cars.. ... - .- -.

Well, yes. Although I thought there was legacy iBus equipment in yours? The LCM being one of them or is it completely differnt to the BMW unit?

The LCM won't be MOST though. Only the entertainment gear ran on the MOST. The iBus ran everything in the early ones, and the legacy BMW components on the later ones iirc.

For example the PDC module runs on the iBus and is the same till about 2009.
