M62 PCV and oil separator parts

Argh. What a pain in the bum this is turning out to be.

I've started on the task of cleaning the oil separator and replacing the PCV as preventative maintenance more than anything - there were no prior symptoms, but I'm glad I did, because on inspection the small peice of rubber hose at the bottom of the separator has gone rotten and is just a goey mess.

However, the first problem is that I cant get that hose off of the metal pipe that goes to the separator, so the next step is to drain the oil and take the whole pipe off and clean it and refit it with the pipe in situ.

If I do this though, I need to refit the banjo bolt at the bottom with new copper (I assume) washers. Where the hec do I get these parts? - they are listed as part number HW1 (the bolt itself is HB1).

Just googling HW1 and HB1 doesnt throw up much. Are they a standard size and I could get them from any motor factors place?

Thanks

HW1 and HB1 aren't part nos. I assume you are looking at Microcat. Click on HW1 or HB1 and it will take you to the part no. And description below the diagram.

Doing the hoses is an absolute mongrel of a job.

My description of what I did is here: https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic20268...p;start=45

Thanks P38.

I thought I was looking at Microcat online, but I realised its just a different website with Microcat diagrams, so when I click on the numbers, nowt happens.

do you know of any verified links to the proper microcat? - I dont mind downloading and paying for it if that is necessary.

I did see your write up and many more - I think I knew it would be a sod of a job.

on reflection, i wonder if these copper sealing washers are just the same as the oil drain plug washer. part number ETC7398, which seem pretty standard. 2010 L322 Autobiography Black Edition

if i am in the right area, the pipe you are talking about i think is the oil return pipe to the sump.
mine is a 2005
the metal pipe to the sump is split in to two parts
one part goes to where you are talking about, mine too was soggy and half missing
the other, about 1/4" pipe goes to the inlet manifold
to assess this pipe you have to remove the inlet manifold RR 2005 4.4 petrol

You are right Knares.

The larger of the two pipes has gone like sticky chewing gum and was split in half. The small one looks perfect though - no gunk up it (I eventually got it off the metal pipe). Now I've got the metal pipe off I've blown air through it and all seems o.k.

Just waiting for parts to arrive for reassembly now, but in the meantime I'll try and get the PCV off. 2010 L322 Autobiography Black Edition

The small pipe connects to the bottom of the cyclone, the larger pipe goes to hose connected the drain on the PCV valve. No need to remove the inlet manifold. Connecting the smaller hose may have been easier without the inlet manifold in place but I didn't do it that way.

I didn't replace the copper washers (HW1) in the diagram. I reused them. Ron B. VK2OTC

if you buy 6C342A
would you mind measuring its length
i bought a length of hose but cut it a bit too long, one day i will take it off and shorten it RR 2005 4.4 petrol

Im still on the project - I double checked the smaller pipe and all is o.k and got some more copper washers now so all good for the banjo bolt etc.

I cant actually get the PCV off though - one of the torx bolts is so damn tight (right at the sodding bottom) I've ended up having to leave it and will likely combine it with another job when the inlet manifold is off completely. However, the two very obvious problems should be rectified - the first with the small hose (6c342a) being stuffed, and at some point someones had the hose coming from the rocker cover off (8556) and the end was all split - I think because they used a cheap jubiliee clip.

All new hoses reattached - I've just been battling connecting the larger of the small hoses to the metal pipe before the torch went flat, but pretty confident of getting that on soon enough.

As it happens, I've been sent two of those 6c342a pipes - I think by mistake, so if you want it I can pop it in the post next week for you. Otherwise I'll measure it when I go back out to the shed later.

i bought a length of hose to do the job, if i had bought the proper hose i would have had to wait to long RR 2005 4.4 petrol
