Servicing Costs and/or any Recommendations?

My '56 plate TD6 is coming up for an Inspection 2 service and my preference is to use a main dealer because the year's LR warranty is about to run out and I'd hope to get any problems they may find taken care of under that (bar usual run-of-the-mill stuff - I expect I'll need brake pads/discs sorting). Having said that, I've no reason to think there's anything wrong - it's been fine during the last 12 months.

Local main dealer wants around £530 for this (I forget the exact figure) and even a local independent is still around £450. Seems a lot for an oil change and a couple of filters, but I appreciate that the car will also be hooked up and checked over for anything else (that they can charge me for!).

Anyone out there with any suggestions for good servicing/costs in the Reading area?

Thanks.

Scarey is from your neck of the woods. I expect he'll have some info for you. Both sound expensive to me. FFRR TD6 HSE

Anything from the dealer will be expensive. If you want the stamp for your warranty and continuity then you have no choice.

However if you want to save money they any garage can change your oil and filters for you. I would suggest changing the air and pollen filter yourself (it turns out LR dealers often don't bother with these!)

I'd expect to pay no more than £100 for an oil and filter change, inc parts. Mine has just cost me about £60 inc parts & labour.

No where near you so can't help with that bit but I recently had an inspection 2 with my Landrover specialist (but not main agent). It was £360 and he did a coupl eof extra mods with his autologic for me that I asked for (enabling TV in motion and cleaning the rear wash jet)

I would say £460 from an indy is a tad expensive. Ash

Main agents often offer lower priced services using Landrover approved parts.. but if you don't ask they are unlikely to say so. I recall my last was much much cheaper and I still have a main agent stamp. Thumbs Up 2010 Disco XS TDV6, 2009 Freelander 2 GS

£199 Inspection 1 or £299 inspection 2 around here at indy

dealer is £500 or £700 for same ...mostly down to labour rate, parts prices not much different

£150 an hour labour for a £15 an hour mechanic leaves a lot of big overheads, but then you get a coffee and dolly bird to bring it to you ...at the indy you just get to talk to a LR bloke cheers

Not quite Reading, but if you want to go to Didcot/ Abingdon, Frogs Island 4 x 4 are very good and very reasonable!

Guava at Guildford may be closer to Reading, I don't know what they charge but they have a very good name on RRSport and Disco3 for those living under the flight paths into Heathrow. I'm not sure (judging by the website) if they are even strictly Independents

There is an Indy at Portman Road Industrial Estate. I shall grab the name on my way past today and post up later.
