England 2014 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Loire Blue

He gave me $100 Australian dollars discount, with wireless, steering wheel adaptor and postage it worked out to around £700 depending on the exchange rate...

Not bad for what it will do and the cost of updating the map on the original hard drive sat nav...

Although I've just received the full Android 10 head unit, direct swap in my wifes Golf GTI and the full head unit cost £110...!!!

Oh well, I like spending the kids inheritance.... Thumbs Up Pete

It's good that they have cracked it and offered a discount too
But TBH I think they would sell many many more at a lower price point.
They would have a big market too if you include all the LR vehicles of this era

. Cheers, Greg

They're selling well at this price so makes sense I think. It’s cheap compared to what LR would charge! Its also slightly more expensive but far superior to their main american competitor which doesnt do touchscreen or wireless carplay and from what I’ve read is a pain to install with poor support.

Also bear in mind they have to produce specific hardware for wach model and even single/dual view of the same model need different hardware so this isn’t cheap to produce.

They have versions for the L405 and many orher LRs as well as a load of other vehicle brands.

Can’t argue with the pre sales support, they’ve got back to me almost straight away every time I’ve been in touch, even well outside office hours. Coupled with WB’s ringing endorsement, I’ve pushed the button. Now got to find the right time to tell the missus why the echo auto we bought a week ago is surplus to requirements!

Really quite curious about this. As I understand it, the system mirrors your phone but leaves the original system in place. That being the case it isn't any different in result from the Navtool offering with similar or cheaper cost.

The difference, as far as I can see, but needs confirming, is that the Navtool system can be fitted without all the stripping out involved with the Aussie system.

Perhaps I have it wrong, which wouldn't be a first. Confused John

HI John,

The Naviplus system runs a full Apple Carplay (I don't have Android so not sure how that works). It doesn't mirror your phone it gives you all the specific CarPlay apps on your factory headunit. The phone is still usable as a separate screen/device - ie you can have Waze running on the Headunit and your Spotify screen showing on the phone. All the factory functions of the headunit remain and the reverse camera flips on automatically when you put the car into reverse. I'll make a video soon to show how it all looks.

Yes at face value it seems similar until you dig a little deeper. I was very keen to buy the Navtool as I thought US support would be much easier than Australia so spent a lot of time comparing before I bought.

The pre-sales support from Navtool was to say the least... not great. They had no install instructions they could send me despite asking several times and they asked for $5000 for wireless CarPlay!!! Also for the 2010-12 model you have to use an external joystick as there is no touchscreen support - which seemed a very backward step for me and was the final deal breaker.

Navtool claim it's a quick install - just remove the headunit but as they have no instructions I'm not so sure - at the very least you'd have to splice into the AUX to get any audio but they conveniently don't mention that.

At the end of the day if it was the equivalent product and much cheaper and easier to install then Naviplus wouldn't be selling any.

For me the level of pre-sales support was the winner - the fact they sent detailed instructions and then provided knowledgable support during the install really set them apart. I'd suggest you contact both companies and compare your experience.

WB has covered this really well, but I’ll add my twopenneth! I too looked at the US option but with the joystick and no touchscreen option, it seemed like an add on to retain the existing system without the actual convenience of CarPlay. Yes it was less expensive but seems to be, effectively, a video interface.
I did a bit of research and the Naviplus option, albeit more expensive, seemed to be the most cost effective with regards to the usability of the end result.
As I mentioned in a previous post, the pre sales service was excellent and then the recommendation of a fellow forum member pushed me to go for it.
It’s worth mentioning that I didn’t get in contact with Navtool directly so can’t speak from experience on that front.
Looking forward to using my new trim removal tools when it arrives. Smile

do I understand this correctly: the Naviplus switches to carplay from 'normal' with two presses on one of the steering wheel buttons ?

Is this what you guys are saying about the optional steering wheel control?

How does it switch if you don't have this (if I've got it right)

. Cheers, Greg

To switch from the factory headunit functions to the CarPlay it's a long hold on the Call End button on the steering wheel.

The optional steering wheel control allows you to skip tracks forward and back using the steering wheel control. Volume on the steering wheel works without this as the audio from the CarPlay is channeled through the car's existing AUX input.

Interesting... So even without the additional steering wheel functions, it still taps into the canbus.
That is quite sophisticated compared to the US one.

Is touchscreen an additional option or standard?
(which the US one doesn't seem to have either)
. Cheers, Greg

Yes you have to splice two cables into CAN+ and - behind the dashboard so things like switching input to the Reverse camera is automatic and it can pickup the long press on the call end button. I’m assuming the CANBUS connection does other things too.

Touchscreen is standard on the Naviplus and not available on the Navtool at least not for the 2010-12 - not sure about other models.

and... last question - you said WB it taps into the AUX - do you know does that prevent you using the rear console aux in ?

. Cheers, Greg

You splice into the AUX left/right and ground wires so the Aux port in the rear remains fully functional. On cars with Aux detect (I believe this is those with uprated audio) there is an extra installation step to short the Aux detect wire to ground under the rear center console) - again the rear aux port remains fully functional.
