Hi all.

I have a mysterious problem with the scuttle panel where it meets the windscreen on my car. Sunlight and average summer temperatures warp the panel badly so that it bends up and out, no longer making contact with the windscreen.

I've never ever seen this on any other car, even in very high temps above 30ºc so why now?

Once in the shade, it returns almost to correct shape but not quite.

I've only had the car a month so still finding my way around it but, am I missing some clips underneath or is there some bonding missing, perhaps from a windscreen change

Aren't windscreen fitters historically the ones who break all the clips?

Anyone else seen this issue or have had it with their car? Anyone?

Everything else seems to fit and be in the correct place with no parts misaligned or poorly fitted or broken, just this odd warping when hot ambient temperatures.

It would seem more a fault of the plastic / manufacturing but very odd given the simplicity of the component and the markets it is sold in.

I'm just really puzzled as a google search and a search of this forum didn't throw any light on the subject at all and, I can't believe I'm the only one to have had this happen to as the same part was manufactured for twenty odd years with no problem.

Could you enlighten me if there are any pop fastenings hidden underneath and apart from the 3 hidden under circular plastic trims?

i can only refer you to the WM which may or may not show details..

as for the product being faulty, maybe its not but the dodgy fitting of it might be the problem.. ... - .- -.

I think i have a spare one albeit for a LHD on a shelf... Im out for some appointments this morning but i can take a pic of the rear and post it up this afternoon evening if that would help sir?

Ive never seen one do that before so i guess something is not clipped down underneath?

I've looked at dozens of these cars and never ever seen anything like it, it's also a bit worrying as if it rained the water would just pour underneath.

After being a member on the RRS and Disco 4 forums, the majority of the commenting has alluded to shall we say "rough handling and unfamiliarity".

On a personal note, an Audi I once had was broken into with a side window being smashed. That in itself wasn't too bad but the lack of familiarity with the car and how the door card was fitted led to the fitter trying to prize off the wood door trim, bending the aluminium backing and cracking the veneer as well as scratching the trim and breaking other clips.

It was impossible to colour match the replacement parts as all the cars have their wood trims matched at the factory to ensure continuity. Audi ordered all the available trims which I think was 10 in total but none came close to the original.

My new RR L322 has had a windscreen replaced and I fear its had the same treatment unfortunately and, is going to cost around £250 to put right.

I'm sure there maybe a good fitter out there somewhere but my personal experience begs to differ.

AHH if the screen has recently been replaced then there is almost certainty a fitting issue with your warping plastic panel... Can you not simply ask the windscreen company to remove and refit this?

I really wish I could but, the fitting was done prior to me buying the car. I'd say its been on there a good couple of years now.

I was trying to ascertain if there were any pop studs / press fixings hidden underneath apart from the 3 x external fixings with the circular covers as if there were, then that would definitively clear up the mystery.

Either way I'm going to have to replace it and it's quite pricey!

as i suggested before, visit a windscreen place and see if they can rectify the problem...might only cost a drink to the fitter.. ... - .- -.
