MPG on a TDV8 3.6

Guys what are you getting from your 3.6’s?

I haven’t been on a run yet to stretch it’s legs but commuting to and from work the average is 15. This can’t be right?

Did get 13mpg for a while until I replaced split intercooler to plenum chamber hoses. Is that your problem ?

England

On my 2010:

20-22 rush hour commute
25 mixed normal driving
30 occasionally on dual carriageways
32.5 on non-stop trip from Birmingham to Edinburgh at no more than speed limit and occasional 50mph zones.

Winter has a detrimental effect on MPG for me. Did Birmingham, UK to El Campello, Spain one winter and got 27mpg average which annoyed me as I kept the speed down all the way! Temperature was -5 to +5 for the first 1,000 miles and it was windy, rainy, and obviously dark early, so I guess all the creature comforts ate the diesel!

These are all on board computer readouts too. Allegedly it's worse if you measure pump to pump, however a quick calculation in my head concurs within 1 or 2 mpg normally. __

The couple of long journeys we have done (Cornwall to Midlands) it has given a solid 30 mpg.......but tootling to the local specialist and the occasional local trip 5 up it only gives around 15-18 mpg, but then it’s all hills and bends around here. David

According to the trip computer a recent run down to Cornwall gave me 37mpg, short runs around home 22-25mpg.

I took the hoses off when I bought it to make sure they were ok as I got the reduced performance message on the way home. They were fine. Hasn’t faulted since bizarrely.
No smoke at all really. Drives well.

Average 27 whilst using it to commute 400 miles a week. (motorway, lanes, towns).
Average on a long trip with a lot of motorway - 29-32

Motorway only - I have over 40, I think 41.9 was the best, this during long journeys across Europe.

Long term short commute to work mix of motorway and town, around 10 miles, 22 mpg according to trip computer.
In Italy last year averaged 25 mpg, usually 50 mile runs mixed town and autostrada.
A good steady 65-70 mph over 100 miles or so gives around 30 mpg.
Towing the tin tent at a steady 60 mph gives a rock solid 21 mpg, tank brimmed until low fuel light comes on, multiple times to Italy.

No Andy it's not right. I live half way up an Irish mountain along small lanes and get 20mpg towing a horsebox. No, I'm not kidding.
You should be averaging 23-24 Mpg around town and over 30 on a run. I got 38 on one trip a driving like a nun.
You don't say what the roads on your commute are like. Heavy traffic, lights and other waiting whilst idling could easily see mpg drop into the teens though. 2007 Vogue TDV8 in Zermatt Silver with Charcoal

I took it for a longer drive the other night as I have only been tootling to work and back in it.
I saw 20 on the country lanes and a short motorway trip saw 22 before I had to get off. The average was 19 when I got home so I think it's there or thereabouts.

Make sure you are getting up to temperature for a start, you should be getting up to temperature, which I think is 89ºc from memory, within around 10-15 minutes of driving.

It then should not deviate at all once there.

Your car uses the coolant temperature to set the fuel mixture, think old fashioned choke. From cold it uses up to 40% more fuel than when up to temperature.

If your thermostats are not knackered then check your EGRs are clean, the map sensors are not covered in crud, in fact check them anyway.

Wynns do an EGR spray cleaner that is superb. You could do with 2 tins, but £20 well spent.

Obviously check your air filters too. Porsche 911 (996)
