Retrofit Adaptive cruise turn off on pre 2017 models ? NO

Hi All,

On the 2017 facelift you can turn off the adaptive cruise by holding down one of the cruise buttons. Does anyone know if this function can be added to an earlier car ?

If you are happy to play follow my leader and stay in one lane on a motorway I guess it works ok but for anything else it is pants ! Mad 2016 AB SDV8 Barolo black

I don't know of a way to do it.

I've seen threads on retro fitting it, which amuses me as I'm not a great fan of it, but not turning it off.

As a semi-permanent solution, I guess you could find a wire to the front radar sensor & remove that ? Or put some tape across it ?

You can't ! Sad

Just had this reply from LR Retrofits

I don’t believe so as this functionality is built into the software and is not a configuration option. It certainly makes no mention of this on the online guide. 2016 AB SDV8 Barolo black

If you try to disable parts of the system I would imagine it would fault the whole cruise control feature so nothing worked... Pete

I looked at this also.
I find the adaptive cruse on mine borders on being dangerous. It was emergency braking while in the outside lane passing other cars so I just don't use it now.
Now I set the ASL and just use that.

Shame really as I quite like CC but live and learn I suppose.

The button holding procedure that someone with a L405 mentioned was to hold the distance reducing button for a few seconds after the minimum distance is shown which is only shown whilst ACC is enabled. I don't recall on which model L405 this worked though. I suspect ACC would be re-enabled on the next ignition cycle rather than permanently off, similar to the minimum distance resetting.

Thanks gents - I'll give those a try.

As above, mine is OK some of the time, but on motorway bends it sometimes thinks a lorry in the middle lane needs some action so it beeps furiously and slams the brakes on. Censored knows what the cars behind think.

Your radar unit must be more than just a little out of alignment. When I fitted my radar unit my eye-balling for staight ahead was good enough to prevent false alerts.
Radar alignment devices similar to headlight alignment machines are available so alignment could be checked prior to removing the bumper to adjust.

I agree with Graeme, mine doesn't do that, I use it all the time and never had it slam the brakes on...!! Pete

I assume the question is "Can I just have cruise control without the adaptive bit..?"

If so, not sure of the 2017 as I have a 216 but can you not justy turn off the front radar and then use Cruise as usual..?

I believe they are separate functions anyway. ie radar is just a 'collision warning alert' (which I can turn off via the dash menu) and I suspect if its off, cruise can't us it.?

I'll perhaps try later when I go out to check that cruise still works. Ash

I'll have to have a look for the radar sensor.

It doesn't do it often and I have sort of leant to drive around it now - taking it extra wide around trucks.

I can't remember whether I've had it happen in the UK, so maybe it's something about driving on the wrong side.....

Comports,

Turning "forward alert" off has no effect on how the Cruise works, I don't have it on and my ACC and Queue assist work fine.... Thumbs Up

Alistair,

My old 322 used to pick up high sided lorries on a right curve and slow down, but never braked hard, funnily enough when abroad it didn't do the same with lorries on left hand bends... Pete
