No Joe.

She lives in Stockholm without parking and they have good public transport. Train to work some 90Km away, but I may move to Scotland she says.

I can see it now:

Hi R, FF is not well, can you pop up and have look? Sad

Thinks Idea Get her in the AA and they can trailer it to me on Relay. Cheers

United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Supercharged 4.2 SC V8 Zermatt Silver

Joe, I’ve decided to keep you company on the Volvo front.

I needed an economical commuter car for a 60 mile daily work round-trip, mostly along the M3 and M25.

I didn’t buy a V70, but I wanted to.

No, I needed something that wouldn’t compete with my SC for family duties and which was good at accommodating just myself and possibly the odd child on parenting duties in comfort and which bettered the SC’s 19 to the gallon.

So, I bought this rather lovely 2009 C30. One lady owner. Full Volvo history. 125,000 miles. Automatic (6-speed). 50mpg.

I love it. But my car count has now risen to 9.

Very nice Si, enjoy Thumbs Up (Although on a 59 plate it is more of a Ford than a Volvo - so I am told by the die hards....?) Made in Belgium, as was my 06 V70 ... .

You’re right, Joe.

This baby Volvo is powered by a Ford 2 litre diesel and associated automatic. But then my 2007 SC uses a Ford-based engine block, as does our 2003 S-Type Jaguar. They’re no less for that, in my view, but the die-hard Volvoists would have you think differently.

Still, the build quality and attention to detail is mightily impressive, so there’s plenty of Volvo in there. Thumbs Up Si. <This is my name.

Keep us in the loop as to how it goes, so far, touch wood, not even the tiniest squeak of complaint from the V70 in six months Thumbs Up .

I wish her luck in finding good public transport in Scotland. Big Cry

She'll definitely need an FFRR if she moves to the countryside up here. Thumbs Up

Cheers Mike

mmm you're closer, perhaps you could advise her on fault finding if it goes wrong Smile

+1 on public transport, but if you do get it, the views in the highlands are fantastic. Cheers

Just finished installing and configuring a VXDIAG VCX NANO and VIDA software (Volvo) to my laptop for full diagnostics capabilities for my V70. Total cost £46 for the VXDIAG.

I had to go the extra mile to install it on Windows 10 (was designed for Windows 7)

Now that beats the pants off the cost of an IID £400 (as much as I liked it) and VCDS - £250 (Audi - as much as I like it)

Here is an install guide for those who might be interested:

Installing VIDA with VXDIAG VCX NANO

I see that VXDIAG also do one for the SSD (JLR) .

Cold Turkey

A bit similar to being an alcoholic or a drug addict, being a Range Rover"er" never leaves you....I still get pangs....

It has been 1 year now since I parted with the RR and took on the Volvo. Certainly there has been much more peace of mind, no worrying about AIR-SUS, AV, EPBs, EGRs, Turbos or rust, and much less getting under the car to fix something. Also I have only covered @ 5.5K miles in the last year, with only a few long distance trips.

The '06 model V70 seems to be the sweet spot - still made by Volvo then, rock solid Volvo engine, excellent build standards and materials, variant foibles from previous 2/3 years all ironed out. Everything works, thing just goes. But it is not a Range Rover....

Just need to keep going to the Range Rovers Anonymous meetings Razz .

Cold Turkey II

Now been two years without a Range Rover. The Volvo V70 has been excellent in every way for my needs, and given the inability to do a great deal of driving, has now done 11,000 miles with me in that time. I have not had a bong or a beep from the message centre for over a year, and it passed its MOT with flying colours in November.

Over the past year I have completely replaced the handbrake system, fitted new discs all round, with new pads, replaced the locking wheel nuts with standard, transmission fluid change, oil change, fixed the towing/trailer lighting (cable damage), and fitted a bluetooth receiver (plugs into the external CD changer socket). I think I have an intermittent sticky rear caliper, have a new one to fit if it gets worse.

In an earlier post I said that someone would have to die before i came back to a FFRR. Well two parents have died, leaving us with a mountain of cash, but I do not get the urge to have a FFRR back on the drive (which to be honest) is where it would spend most of its life (either up on axle stands or not !). There is a saying, "the streets are paved with gold" and I have likened this to Range Rover ownership, as your FFRR drips pound coins where ever it goes until the streets are paved with gold, my gold.....

We had to clear a house of 45 years ownership, the Volvo did 22 100 mile round trips filled to the brim ( I estimated @ 5 tons of stuff in all, most of which went to the tip) Volvo gets a bit low at the back with a load on (not like the FFRR that just resets to standard height). Probably need new/uprated springs, or to fit the towing spacers that are available.

So for the time being, Volvo it is. These models, in good order, seem to be appreciating in value now. Just not doing the miles or the posing to warrant an FFRR. Also trying to use the MG Midget a lot more, if it would just stop raining! .
