Restricted Performance fault TDV8 4.4

Hi all,

last week or so I have had a couple of restricted performance faults. First time it happened was on motorway at 70, pulled over in services and no obvious fault code so cleared faults and it was fine.

Had a chance to have a look at some of the posts on this and usual suspects seem to be things like the intake rubbers so went for a play today.

Can't replicate fault on sedate driving but did get it to go into restricted mode on the motorway if I accelerated heavily. The only engine fault being thrown though was a U0405-68 invalid data recieved from speed control.

Cleared faults and it was OK again.

I have had live values on and seem to be getting strange or no readings for bank 2. EGR2 shows no data, boost actuator shows zero, if I boot it commanded boost actuator2 goes to 100% but actual boost actuator2 doesnt move etc......

Have been under the hood and checked the intake rubber boots whilst the engine is being revved and can hear/feel no boost leaks.

Any thoughts?

Cheers,

The secondary turbo change-over valve may be sticky - the original design's external linkage was problematic.
The valve can be spotted by looking directly down behind the radiator about half way between the centre and the left side.

I think the EGR readings are a bit of a red herring sir as the 4.4 only gets one EGR because of the sequential turbo's... Thumbs Up

Thanks Mike - I have googled that reference from one of your other posts but nothing comes up - don't suppose you have a copy of the TSB?

If it helps, mine is a March 2011, build date and it was fitted with the old design with the nut.
They tried to free it up, but it kept sticking, so they replaced it with the new design.

I've checked and mine does have the nut, am dribbling oil on it during the course of today so will see if it makes a difference. Hoping this is the problem but need to try and isolate to be sure, I am guessing the difference in readings on the bank2 boost live values is the give away but we will see Rolling Eyes

I think I would be tempted to take the nut off, then give a good squirt of WD 40.
It only moves a fraction of a mm.
